Calif has a small border with Mexico as compared to other states, but it does have a fence.  They've been finding these tunnels ever since. 

I'm surprised we don't have more of a problem with our long coastline.

I am sure you do.  They just don't have the manpower.  California's general coastline is 840 miles long, due to the way the coast line curves.

We have several marinas near by.  A lot of these boat owners go down to Mexico all the time unimpeded.  Who knows what they're doing.
