I have a ten year old lenovo tablet that has windows eight. I have received a noticed that windows eight will no longer be provided with updates. Is this a problem? It does have virus protection, it has never been used for banking, very little documents stored on it. I am assuming windows eight will still run, just not update, and this little tablet is not set up for an upgrade to windows 11. What ever that means.

Lucky you!!!
If there was  way, I'd stop all win updates, they're just updates to their own corrupt and illegal entry into your Pooters back door to spy on you.
The operating system is done and developed, but other entities around the globe keep finding ways to hack their system, while Gates claims it's for our safety. Familiar Lie?

Unless Win stops using the old format, you should be just fine. I have a friend who refuses to abandon Win 98.
I'd still be using it too if not for a hard drive crash. And like every OS after Win 95, 11 sucks Dog shit big time!

I just bought an Alienware system and 50" monitor for my games since my other PC literally died on the spot.
Was I backed up? Yep, all on the dead computer.    :bigl  :bigl  :bigl  :bigl  :bigl  :puke

Solar, thanks. I kept thinking why would someone pick windows 8 to hack when there probably are not that many people still using it. I like it, better than 11. 11 in my opinion has nothing to brag on. Like I said, there is nothing on that laptop to hack, but windows acts like I'm going to lose my first born if I don't change it out.

The only things to worry about is video support, Java Etc.
But I'm willing to bet even Win 98 still works to this day.
Keep using it, no one will bother you.

Still using 8, Brave and Mccfee say they won't update. Not having a problem.
I dream of the day a chicken can cross the road with out it's motives being questioned.

Biggest risk is that updates for browsers, AV software, etc. will eventually be stopped. Check with your software vendors to find out their support for Windows 8 going forward.

I installed Linux Mint on my old Windows 8 HP laptop. I had no previous experience with Linux but was able to install Linux and keep Windows 8 and dual boot into either one.  There is a lot help on the internet about this.  Make sure you back up your files, export you browser shortcuts and get a physical copy of usernames and passwords before doing this.  If you have questions we can help.

Thanks VV, but I'm not really into it and really don't want to take on another project until I finish the other 3000 I have yet to complete.
