No, they wont  be  killed  off. Im old enough to remember after Reagans 2nd  landslide that the dem party was headed  out and  a  political realignment was  happening. It didnt. Similarly, we have been told the rep party  is the  party  of increasingly  old  people  and demographics means the end  for  reps. Yet, it appears Hispanic  voters are  moving to the rep column. That  being said, the dems are  1 vote  from passing a stalinist  law making  them the  only  viable  party.
