Looks just like the cat that picked me at the shelter. I open the cage and he jumped right on my shoulder, sat down and said, OK, let's go home.
I named him Hi, because that's what he sad when he sat down, hEYYYEee?

Your cats are full-on predators, ha!

Well...  my husband just put out two more live traps...  "just in case there were anymore".  😳

Awww!  Those American Longhaired Domestics are so chill, they make the best pets!  And I believe that's the breed of this little one we just found, if you can believe anything you find online... (which you can't).

Quote from: Grammy on June 10, 2021, 06:55:35 AMWell, you all dodged a bullet.  My husband wants to keep the kitty!

We have a 9 A.M. appt in the morning to get him (or her, still too early to tell) to the vet and if we can get rid of the fleas and ticks, we're going to try to bring it indoors and introduce it to Chester.  We're hoping that he'll do better with a new kitten than he did with our last rescue, a Nebelung female that he never warmed to.  But we found her "human", and she had a happy ending.

Pansy (I named her), the Nebelung (below) had a similar story, she was found up in a car.  These people, living in a crowded apartment complex had her completely declawed, then decided they didn't want a cat and just threw her out into the parking lot to fend for herself.  A neighbor somehow found out what they did and went looking for her and eventually found her up in the tire wall of a car.  She took her to an animal shelter but no one wanted her (she was severely matted and had that Nebelung "scowl" that puts some people off).  I saw online that she was scheduled to be put down in 24 hours, so I drove about an hour to get her.  We had to have her shaved, but her hair eventually grew back out.  Chester was openly hostile and by the time we found her a home, he had only graduated to "resentment".

Chester's story is that he was taken away from a dorm of college boys who were throwing him in the air and kicking him like a football.  We don't know what else they did to him:  he's terrified of plastic bags, for instance.  He was in a shelter, in a cage with a tom called "Nigel" who was bent on killing him.  So, another rescue.  Except for llamas, we've never had an animal that wasn't a rescue.

Fingers crossed, everyone, that Chester accepts this little one.

OMG The new one will fit right it.  All so cute.

Well, how did it go?

Well, the kitten has something called Coccidiosis, which is some kind of parasite in the cells of the intestinal lining.  I guess they can get it from their mother's feces?  So he's on daily meds now for the next couple of weeks until he's pronounced clean.  All that to say that the vet wants him and Chester separated until then, as far as Chester being exposed to the kitten's litter box, etc., so they can only smell each other through the cage.  Chester's only giving soft little hisses, which is really good for him!  When we brought Pansy into the house, he growled like a big ol' dog, ha!  I think once we get the little guy healthy enough, they'll be okay.

Official verdict:  the kitten is a "he" and he's the same breed as Chester, a Long-hair American Domestic.  They're very "chill" cats, with a personality similar to the California Ragdoll.  The little guy's name is Hershey because, as the grandbabies put it:  he's sweet, he's chocolate and he's "just a little kiss"!

Oh yeah.... the vet said he very well could have gotten into my car while I was in town and rode all the way to my house!

  We picked up a stray, guess about seven years ago, about 4 weeks old, his ears were still pinned back so he could not have been over 4 weeks, must have been dumped, had to bottle feed it for a week, it too had coccidiosis, and ring worm and only God knows what else. there were three other cats plus the border collie that we had to keep away from the stray. We kept it in a cage, took it out daily for play, exercise, and treatment until it gained enough weight to get it on actual meds for all the problems the little fellow had. By the time we got it healed, and well enough to try to find it a home, he was part of the fam damily.
