My sisters and I do a weekly Bible study.  We have been doing this for over 2 years now.  I know I have learned more than I never knew.

What was the last Bible study you did?  Did you find it enlightening? Helpful?

This is the last one we completed.

I listen to the NT on tape, in my service truck.  7 different narrations of the KJV, everyone reads the text differently.  It takes between 1 - 1.5 weeks to go from Matthew-Revelation, depending on the reader/narrator & how many hours/miles + how fast/slow they read.

Don't have a "favorite" - James Earl Jones, Eric Martin, Alexander Scourby, Daniel Wagner, Stephen Johnson, Bob Beeman, and George Zotatus?...    Most are professionals (voice actors), Bob Beeman is a Pastor - and reads quite a bit differently than the rest.  4 years... maybe 5th year...  about 40-45 times a year?  Feels like I'm hearing it for the first time, the variation & emphasis of each narrator is so *different*.

Much better than listening to the radio, and for renewing of the mind, the assurance & peacefulness of the Spirit, there is *nothing* better than filling your heart with the Word of God.  Replace all those old "default" thoughts & ways, with a new way, an eternal way... push out the old stuff, by filling your mind with Spiritual things.

Plus:  If you're really *serious* about spending eternity with Jesus - don't you kinda want to get to *know* Him before you meet him face-to-face?  We *are* suppose to be "conformed to His image", etc., right?   That's what got me started, a desire to go back to those days in the beginning, "And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?"  Luke 24:32  ... it's exciting, seriously, understanding things in context, like never before.
All animals are created equal; Some just take longer to cook.   Survival is keeping an eye on those around you...

I have several versions of the Bible and chose a different one for each study we do.  I am currently reading through the Bible and using my English Standard Version.

My sister has also shown me two Bible apps.  The Blue Book Bible and Bible Hub.

When I gave my life to Christ, it was difficult to put the Book down.  Genesis to Revelation in 3 months, NASB, probably the second best thing I did at the time.   I had to know as much as I could about the Lord - my heart just burned with excitement and the wonder of what He did FOR me.   I miss those days, want them back.

My daughter gave me a book and for the first time in my life I will be successful in reading the entire Bible.

As I have said my sisters and I have been doing Bible studies together (over the phone) for 2+ years now.  I tuck them away in a box that one day my daughters will uncover and it will give to them a deeper understanding of their Mom and my faith.  Anyway....

Currently we are working through a study by Angie Smith (one of our favorites), Seamless.  We are constantly being surprised by additional nuggets of information from stories we thought we knew.  This is one of the reason we like her... from the study.

One of the first things I learned about successfully fitting in with Christians was the power of nodding.

It made people think I understood things I didn't, and it covered over the insecurity and frustration of feeling like the Bible was never going to make sense to me. So, when they said things like, "I'm so inspired by Paul's courage," I would bob my head and make a mental note to investigate later.

When they upped the ante with phrases like, "This story takes place in modern-day Iraq," I nodded. I couldn't point at modern-day Iraq on a map if my life depended on it, let alone do the mental bridge-building to get to the part where this realization was as euphoric as it seemed to be for other people

We all related to this right from the beginning and laughed at how far we have come in the last 2 years.

Grasping the Big Picture of Scripture
I memorized a few passages and did several amazing Bible studies, but the overarching story escaped me. Details just floated there in space without anything to anchor them down to the bigger picture.

It wasn't until I spent time investing in understanding the basic story that the characters and themes of Scripture really came to life for me, and my greatest desire is for my Bible study, Seamless to do the same for you.

Don't misunderstand me—I am by no means a Bible scholar and I'm sure I've barely scratched the surface when it comes to understanding the Word, but I've made progress.

If you are looking for a place to start I would highly recommend this study.  Seamless by Angie Smith

My wife and I go to a weekly Bible study. I would be lost without the friendship, knowledge & study. We have grown close to the people in the study, their family and their prayer requests. I have learned a great deal and continue to learn every week. The once in a great while that we have to miss, our week is just not the same.

When we started this it was just my one sister.  The next study we asked the other and we haven't looked back.  With surgeries and other things we have, on occasion, skipped a week or two but you are right - we all really miss it.
