Grew too big and could not maintain its borders is more to the point.

Internal corruption and weakness gradually weakened it until the Huns pretty much finished it off.

Well that was the main reason things began to fall apart; the intrinsic weaknesses of the system insured that it would happen sooner or later.

If they had been less greedy as regards acquisition of territory, it would have taken longer to fall.

But the whole thing was never going to last as long as they believed.

The British Empire in the end was much larger and fell because in the end a small nation or nation state cannot hold onto such land grabs no matter what.  a fair number of the reasons the British Empire fell also were the reasons the Roman Empire fell.  The reasons every empire sooner or later falls.

Societies collapse for several reasons, but mainly because leadership fails to uphold the values that created the unity in the first place.
Society = Conservatism. We're seeing the same thing here, only the Marxists knew they couldn't destroy us unless they took over leadership.
Yes, history IS repeating itself, but the people are awake this time, simply because we understand history and refuse to allow the enemy to win.

I believe that you are confusing the Roman Republic demise with the Roman Empire demise.
