My best friend and her husband moved to South Carolina this summer.  They are finally breaking ground on their new home.  They were transplants from California to a small coastal town in Oregon.  They lasted just over 2 years there and bailed as it kept getting worse and worse. (Hard to imagine worse that California)

They literally sold their house in 3 days and then packed and moved to the other side of the country.  Toy

Migration to the Upstate (Greenville/Spartanburg area) has really accelerated. That is only an hour from the Hendersonville/Asheville area.

I lived in Greenville  for 30 years until 11 years ago, it has really grown, along with the traffic and congestion.  Glad I moved lakeside

I had a work colleague retire and move from Chicago to Travelers Rest. Are you on Hartwell or Keowee? Folks are discovering those areas as well.

I was in Asheville on a vacation in 1995. Stayed there in a B&B. Wanted to see the Biltmore Mansion.

I have never been to San Francisco, but I must say that I've never run into more gay folk than I did in just three days in Asheville 26 years ago. The B&B hosts turned out to be a gay male couple, something never mentioned in their literature. EVERY male waiter and EVERY male store clerk was obviously, often flamboyantly gay. The city's sidewalks and storefronts were a tapestry of gay culture and loaded with colorfully dressed gay paraders.

I read somewhere that Asheville has become the San Francisco of the East. Is this the case?

I will take credit for labeling Asheville as San Francisco East. I moved to WNC about 25 years ago and quickly recognized what Asheville was. Hendersonville is about 25 miles south of Asheville, but on a different planet. One of the current issues in Asheville is dealing with all the homeless folks, just like SF.

So you're the San Francisco East guy.

I would think that homeless folks in Asheville this time of year would be in the early stages of freezing their asses off. It's not a warm place in the winter, with altitude winning out over latitude.

Do you think that gayness is what attracts the homeless? Is it just Leftism in general?

They have some shelters, but not enough as homeless are part of the influx.

I do not believe it is the gayness that attracts. The city is run by leftists and their lax approach to civil disobedience is a magnet. Mrs. Sup and I rarely go to downtown Asheville.

Very familiar with it as I worked the entire state of SC.

Here is another reason it is great living here. Our sheriff department does not fool around. Their diligence, as well as the Hendersonville police department, discourage bad folks from venturing here. BTW, the DA doesn't fool around either.
