Here's an interesting map I ran across that shows the combined total per/gallon gasoline taxes by state.

According to Exxon Mobil in this article (http://www.exxonmobilperspectives.com/2014/02/07/this-gasoline-tax-map-explains-a-lot/?utm_source=Outbrain&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Perspectives_-_Full_Site),
QuoteWe [Exxon Mobil] earned about 5.5 cents for every gallon of gasoline and other petroleum products we refined, shipped, and sold in the United States.
Consider this: The federal and state and local governments collected 40 to 60 cents per gallon in taxes.
Good find, you should keep thin in the library.
Note my state, Ca, highest taxes in the Nation, and we're an oil exporter. Just keeping Marxism alive. :glare:
That's really sad... :/

If you're my age or older, you can remember filling the tank with gas that cost around 30 cents/gallon. Judging by this map, those days are certainly gone forever.
Is that what you mean by "really sad?"

I remember the days of the "Gas wars" gas at 15ยข a gal. You also got a drinking glass and a map. And you could work on your own car or truck.
Gas prices varied widely around the country, Ca and some mid west states averaged higher prices depending on just how rural one was.
Check out this average of prices around the Nation over the years.
