Yes we do. IMHO, insider trading, both buying and DUMPING, has turned the term "stock market" into a dirty word. Insider trading is already against the law, but when congress is the one breaking the law, enforcement looks the other way. Musk is threating to investigate, if he does be prepared for all the howling that is coming.

Musk has said, and take it with a grain of salt, he is looking into members of congress who have become worth over 200 million on their salary. He will be up against both parties here and maybe even the courts. I expect very little.

Well, it's there. It's not going away. People have found ways to cheat the system, making it unfair for honest investors. But your question asks should the government be involved, meaning OUR government. Our crooked slimy bunch of yahoos. Here is one wild ass proposal, lets pick a couple of retirees from each state, RANDOM!, and put them in charge of the stock market. They can't have any crimes, bad debt, speak and understand English, good standing etc. and let them pqass the laws. While they are rewriting the laws, lets let Musk have all the power he needs to put the crooked ones we have in congress in jail.

Much of what I see that is bad in our society, from stock market cheating, to drugs, to crooked politicians, hell most of what is bad, can be traced to congress either not doing their jobs or writing laws that give some on society an un fair advantage over others.

Like all things in life, it has a purpose good or bad, it fits a need.
I develop a product the world needs, but I need a shit ton of money to make it happen, I peddle the idea to a well established industry leader that it would pair well with, so they leak the word that they are promoting the product and their stockholders are excited.

Investors worldwide see the potential, so they invest in the company. My product receives even more funding and it's on its way to the Mkt.
This is the basic Mkt, but like I said all things in life, have a purpose good or bad The product does well, but another company sees it as a threat, so they attempt a hostile takeover to kill it off.

This is why we have monopoly laws, but then Congress has its hands in the cookie jar, so they too, get a cut.
Congress is the parasite feeding off all entities.
We still see the product go to Mkt, but the promise of big returns has been sucked out by so-called "Law Makers".

Point is, the Mkt. is good, those in charge?
This is why I never ever played the rigged game, I knew who else was rigging the game.
Now, if I had another couple of decades in the game, I'd be buying up a ton of copper.
I may not play the game, but I watch growth and recession, and right as we speak, copper is about to go through the roof.
I can easily explain why, but I think everyone here knows what's about to happen.

It used to provide liquidity for companies. We're bringing it back to where someone can own part of a company based on that person's confidence of that company's performance or future.
