IRS loses $27 million to computer glitch

By SARAH WESTWOOD

Internal Revenue Service officials accidentally handed out $27 million in refunds in 2013 thanks to a "programming error."

A pattern of "ineffective monitoring," identified by the IRS' watchdog, caused the IRS to hand out an additional $19 million before the agency verified that the recipients had provided accurate income information.

"We forecast that over five years the IRS could issue $135 million in potentially erroneous refunds due to this programming error," wrote the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration, which oversees the IRS, in a report made public Monday.

What's more, the watchdog predicted the tax agency "could issue more than $95 million in potentially erroneous refunds" over the next five years "because tax returns are not being verified as required."

The IRS gives new meaning to the word 'incompetent'.

I don't think the IRS itself,  even really knows who is owed what, or who owes what at this point.

Why do I say that? Not only because of the way in which the agency has been used a tool to go after political dissenters. IE: Lois Lerner/Obama/IRS scandal.

But also because the federal tax code/law.

By itself, not counting State or Local city tax codes, is over 74,000 pages long.

It's so long, it would take the average person over a year to read it.

And even if they could or did read it entirely.

It's so large, and complex/convoluted that the person reading it, will never possibly be able to adequately comprehend/retain/remember all of what it was they read.

Just to put it in perspective for some folks (liberals).

The King James Bible, is about four hundred or so years old now, it has 800,000 words in it.

The U.S. tax code, is about 238 years old (it's actually younger than the United States itself) and has over 3.7 million words in it.

So it's about half the age of the KJV Bible, yet it's also about four times as long. And again, that's not counting the State, and Local City tax codes, which get added to that.

The United States tax code is a prime example of what happens when Government just legislates all willy nilly and runs amok!

And why we the Citizen's should never tolerate, or allow our Government to do so.
