Do we really need the stock market?

Is it yet another thing that started out good, but eventually turned to crap?
With all these lawyers with cameras on the street I'm shocked we have so much crime in the world.
This challenge to law and order is always the start to loosing our constitutional rights.
How come nobody was interested in educating people about these rights until online videos got monetization?

Yes we do. IMHO, insider trading, both buying and DUMPING, has turned the term "stock market" into a dirty word. Insider trading is already against the law, but when congress is the one breaking the law, enforcement looks the other way. Musk is threating to investigate, if he does be prepared for all the howling that is coming.

Is this another reason why small businesses can't survive?

Is this why some conglomerates get too big for their britches?

Should the government be involved in yet another form of gambling?

Should the government be involved in investing in any way, shape, or form?

Rick

And yet you are not offering any other options.
I dream of the day a chicken can cross the road with out it's motives being questioned.

Not having it is an option.

Do we really need it? Does it cause more problems than anything?

Silence, all excellent questions. All I can give in response is just my humble opinion.

QuoteAs of February 2025, there were 1,596 small-cap stocks trading on U.S. stock exchanges using the definition of a market cap between $300 million and $2 billion.
However, the number of small-cap stocks can change rapidly due to factors like market growth, IPOs, and market cap changes.

Small businesses are generally defined as employer firms with fewer than 500 workers, and among the roughly 6 million small business firms with employees, 49% have just one to four workers.
This indicates that while many small businesses exist, only a fraction of them are publicly traded as small-cap stocks.
while I'm guessing the stock market does not really help the small business person, many just do not have what it takes to get on it, I don't know if it hurts them either.

I think
Quotewhy some conglomerates get too big for their britches?
, has more to do with their close ties with congress, or to be more precise, those who have their hand out in congress. It is no coincidence many in congress are guilty of the same laws they passed. (remember, JMHO.

Musk has said, and take it with a grain of salt, he is looking into members of congress who have become worth over 200 million on their salary. He will be up against both parties here and maybe even the courts. I expect very little.

QuoteShould the government be involved in investing in any way, shape, or form
Well, it's there. It's not going away. People have found ways to cheat the system, making it unfair for honest investors. But your question asks should the government be involved, meaning OUR government. Our crooked slimy bunch of yahoos. Here is one wild ass proposal, lets pick a couple of retirees from each state, RANDOM!, and put them in charge of the stock market. They can't have any crimes, bad debt, speak and understand English, good standing etc. and let them pqass the laws. While they are rewriting the laws, lets let Musk have all the power he needs to put the crooked ones we have in congress in jail.

Much of what I see that is bad in our society, from stock market cheating, to drugs, to crooked politicians, hell most of what is bad, can be traced to congress either not doing their jobs or writing laws that give some on society an un fair advantage over others.

Like all things in life, it has a purpose good or bad, it fits a need.
I develop a product the world needs, but I need a shit ton of money to make it happen, I peddle the idea to a well established industry leader that it would pair well with, so they leak the word that they are promoting the product and their stockholders are excited.

Investors worldwide see the potential, so they invest in the company. My product receives even more funding and it's on its way to the Mkt.
This is the basic Mkt, but like I said all things in life, have a purpose good or bad The product does well, but another company sees it as a threat, so they attempt a hostile takeover to kill it off.

This is why we have monopoly laws, but then Congress has its hands in the cookie jar, so they too, get a cut.
Congress is the parasite feeding off all entities.
We still see the product go to Mkt, but the promise of big returns has been sucked out by so-called "Law Makers".

Point is, the Mkt. is good, those in charge?
This is why I never ever played the rigged game, I knew who else was rigging the game.
Now, if I had another couple of decades in the game, I'd be buying up a ton of copper.
I may not play the game, but I watch growth and recession, and right as we speak, copper is about to go through the roof.
I can easily explain why, but I think everyone here knows what's about to happen.

It used to provide liquidity for companies. We're bringing it back to where someone can own part of a company based on that person's confidence of that company's performance or future.

It's time to invest in copper if you haven't yet.

Jun 27, 2025(Bloomberg) –First Quantum Minerals Ltd. has started shipping stockpiled copper from its stalled mine in Panama, 19 months after the operation was shut down by the country's top court.

A bulk carrier called Lipsi departed on June 18 from Punto Rincon, a private port owned by First Quantum that's used exclusively to ship out mined ores known as concentrate from the Cobre Panama mine, data compiled by Bloomberg showed.

The vessel — which has a cargo capacity of about 35,000 deadweight tons — is carrying concentrate destined for European copper smelter Aurubis AG, according to people familiar with the matter, who asked not to be identified due to its commercially sensitive nature.

The shipment comes after Panama's government last month authorized First Quantum to export about 120,000 tons of copper concentrate inventory that was left stranded in late 2023 when the mine's license was ruled to be unconstitutional, and the vast operation was ordered to shut down.

Revenues from the sales will be used to fund the maintenance of the mothballed operation, while First Quantum continues to lobby for the resumption of operations. Panamanian President Jose Raul Mulino said earlier this month that the slate is now clean to start talks about a potential restart, but warned there's still a long way to go before a deal can be done.

The rest of the stockpile will be shipped to offtake partners in Japan and South Korea over the coming months, the people said.

declined to comment. A spokesperson for Aurubis didn't immediately respond to a phone call and email seeking comment.

The release of the Cobre Panama inventory could provide some relief to copper smelters, which have faced a growing shortage of concentrate since the mine was shut down. Processing fees — a gauge of copper ore availability — have plunged to record lows, prompting smelters in the Philippines and Namibia to shut down and others to dial back output.

The unexpected closure of Cobre Panama, which accounted for 1.5% of global copper output at its peak, sent shock waves through the industry. The incident was a watershed moment during a period of worsening copper supply imbalance due to an expansion of global smelting capacity.
