This was huge news in Sacramento when it was announced. Dims were different then, demanding new trials so they could execute the worst criminals instead of risking escape to new prisons. My, how times have changed.

I think may be playing this Alcatraz deal as a way to keep the need for more prison space in the news. As a developer he knows the cost to redevelop Alcatraz is not a good deal.

My first take was that he was using it as a distraction. Now I'm pretty sure he's serious.

Symbolically it would be a good move. Housing MS-13 TDA and Cartel Sicarios would send a clear message. But GITMO would be a better, they could hold hearings in GITMO then shove 'em out the gate into the Workers Paradise of Cuba.
