Truckers Send Message To the Marxists in Colorado

https://twitter.com/i/status/1472266686921388038

Truckers from around America are reacting to the 110-year prison sentence of Rogel Aguilera-Medoros' a truck driver sentenced to an insane amount of jail time after an accident where the brakes failed on his semi-truck.

On Thursday, the 26-year-old truck driver was found guilty on 27 different counts related to a deadly incident on Interstate 70 in Denver, Colorado.

The brakes on Aguilera-Mederos' semi-truck failed, and he crashed into stopped traffic, killing four people.

The extraordinary severe mandatory sentence has faced widespread disagreement, even from the judge and the victims' families.

Now a trucker-led movement has exploded on social media, especially on TikTok.

Truckers are refusing to drive to Colorado to get Governor Jared Polis to grant Rogel Aguilera-Mederos clemency or commute part of his sentence.

The videos now circulating show surreal scenes of trucks stopped on the highway shoulders lined up seemingly for miles and miles.

Over 4 million people have signed an online petition supporting the protests' goals.

Crap... 110 years for an accident....this is NOT criminal... it's a civil case just like when doctors make mistakes on patients. I too as a trucker will boycott Colorado.

I was just reading this and was ready to post on it. I have been down this mountain many of times and it takes a lot of experience and correct equipment to maneuver the mountain terrains and downgrades. Places like Loveland pass, Donna pass, Cabbage Hill, etc., etc... the equipment especially the transmission (Automatic or manual), gear selection, CB radio for other truckers to help with is utmost of importance getting down the pass and better yet with knowing where and how to use runaway ramps. Each downgrade pass has a brake adjustment area atop the mountain you are about to go down. You must and should use this area to make the proper adjustment to your brakes.

I have 5 bucks that says this 23 year old kid had an automatic transmission, shut the CB radio off due to nervousness. I can be wrong with that being said...give me a Super 10 transmission with an Jake Brake (engine brake), adjusted brakes, and a very tuned up CB radio and the chances of a runaway truck will be reduced by 99%.

The manual transmission will keep the truck in gear. Along with a Jake brake very slight brake pressure (never ever fanning your brakes) will take you down these passes with no problems.

An auto transmission might cause the transmission to go up a gear which will cause the truck to speed up crating more fiction on brakes, whereas, a manual transmission will keep the truck in the gear selected.

A Jake brake will reduce the exhaust from going out and help hold back the engine.

Fanning the brakes vs. slight pressure. Fanning the brakes lets air between the drums and brakes which will cause brakes to to overheat and cause fire.

Speed is very important too...take your hands and rub them together (one hand represents the brakes and the other hand the drums) do it at a slow speed first than do it at a high rate of speed and you will feel the difference.

When all goes to hell and my advise and examples doesn't work the CB communication is the last line of defense to help with other truckers to get you to a runaway ramp or if that is to late help block off traffic so you can get down the pass without hurting other travelers.

Also follow all traffic signs...Donna Pass is the best in the United States out of all the dangerous passes. Donna Pass will instruct you how to maneuver the pass correctly and safely with the traffic signs that are post.

This kid doesn't belong in criminal court he belongs in civil court just like all accidents do.

Agree Bronx, inexperience and faulty equipment, this responsibility lies on those who maintain and own the rigs.
The company who sent him out has a poor track record of maintenance, and to send a kid down this route is criminal.
I feel for the kid as do  all of these truckers, they too were beginners at one time.
As you pointed out, driving is far more than knowing the laws of the road and being able to run short hops on flat land.
This is all about experience. Hell, we have truckers crashing every year in the Sierra because these steep grades and inexperience, not the place to learn.

It will be interesting to see if the threat by truckers holds. If it does for just Christmas week it will create total chaos in CO.

Please do...and if any young drivers need any help navigating these Passes feel free to inbox me than we can have a conversation on what should be done.

The part that I don't under stand, this is coming from CB talk, when a driver uses a runaway ramp and police are called with the towing company a fine is given...now I don't know first hand because I never had to use a runaway ramp. I have heard to many stories for this not to be true...also you're most likely get fired for using the runaway ramp because of all the damage that is done to the under carriage of the truck and trailer. With that being said a lot of drivers will avoid these runaway ramps for these reasons I stated. Sad but true.

I would love to know if this kid's truck was an automatic or a manual transmission, and if he bypassed the brake adjustment area atop the mountain...? Also, if the truck had an engine brake....? Was his CB radio off...?

I can't tell you how many time coming down these passes a truck driver was asking of help from other truckers to slow or move traffic so a driver with a runaway truck can navigate to a runaway ramp or get down the hill safely.

My first 6% downgrade pass was Cabbage Patch pass in Pendleton, Oregon. In the brake adjustment area I was scared shitless and an old timer asked me "if I needed any help", to make a long story short I said "yes, I'm scared shitless". He helped me adjust my brakes and told me what gear to be in and told me to stay behind and do as he does...we made down the hill and entered the truck stop at the bottom....I pulled in the fuel lane and he stopped next to me laughing...I asked him..."what so funny"....? He said "your brakes are red hot get off the fuel island before something happens".

Yes inexperience will get you and others hurt in a blink of an eye. Also in the Sierra (Donna Pass we called it) there are great sign instructions to navigate you down the hill. For the life of me I can't figure out how a truck gets runaway in the Sierra....now a jack knifed truck is a whole different animal.

I can't even fathom a rig without a Jake brake, Hell, they come standard in many diesel pickup trucks these days.
As to the Sierra, the weather can change in a second, and many of these rigs get caught off guard in mini blizzards.

You want STOOOPID?
I rode with a bunch of friends to Harrah's Tahoe to gamble back in the early 70s.
The sun was out, it was early morning, got just near Ice House turnout on Hwy 50 when a squall hit, Jerry couldn't get chains for his 69 Camaro because he had huge meats on the rear, so we had to sit and wait for a snow plow to clear a turn around so we could head back. That was the plan, anyway....

Well, the plow came but didn't create a turn around, he just kept going, so the majority decided to follow the plow over the crest.
Of course this took what seemed to be hours, (we were high). The ride was harrowing, snow blasting against the windshield, wipers on high and you could barely see an image of the plow, but Jerry, determined, gripped the wheel and with face glued to the windshield, we persevered on.

Suddenly the plow pulls off the road, Jerry attached surgically to his ass followed. That's when we saw cars passing us.
Yes, Jerry followed the dam plow so close, we couldn't see that the sky had cleared long ago.
Felt like complete idiots, and I have no doubt everyone that passed us laughed their asses off.

Had this happened today, I'm certain I could find ridiculing videos of that excursion.

I mean, how long have you been a trucker/trucker biz?

Lets see... I have learned to drive in the military....I went in when I was 17 in 1974 got Honorable Discharged in 1978 and went Over The Road (OTR). I'm now 65. I drove OTR for about 20 years.

When they (DOT = Department of transportation) shut down the Monford Lane drivers with tickets to get them off the road I left and started driving local in the State of Georgia.
After a few years I brought my own truck and I was off and running hauling heavy equipment, oversize loads, explosives.

Some of the trucker CB garb are...

Smokey Bear = cops
Full-grown bear = State Trooper
Diesel Cop = DOT
Evil Knievel = motorcycle cops
Yardstick = mile marker
Chicken coup = weight stations to weight your load.
10-4 = thanks and goodbye
Good neighbor = thanks
Lot Lizard = prostitute at a truck stop
Alligator = blown tire on the road
Big Road = interstate
Chicken hauler = a fancy all lit up truck
Georgia overdrive = putting your truck in neutral on a downgrade. NEVER DO THIS

I can go on and on but I won't bore you guys any longer. Oh one more important thing to remember...never ever call a trucker over the CB radio or in person "10-4 Good Buddy" despite what the movie Smokey and the Bandit or Convoy say...."Good Buddy" = calling some one a homosexual......

Oh and a "Monford Lane" driver is truck driver that haul ass in the left lane...someone like me with a triple digit Pete.

If drivers that reads this and they ever heard over the CB radio...."if you're not trucking please move to the right"....it was most likely me trying to maintain the speed of the Monford Lane. "Thanks and 10-4 Driver,....I'm out"....!
