Democrats picked up a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives after Sarah Palin lost a congressional special election in Alaska on Wednesday.

Mary Peltola won the election to fill the rest of the term of the at-large seat previously held by Rep. Don Young, a Republican, who died in March.

Democrats celebrated electing the first Alaska Native to serve in the House. She also becomes the first woman to hold the seat.

Peltola, who is a former state lawmaker, cast herself in the election as a regular Alaskan in contrast to the political star status of Palin.

"I'm not a millionaire. I'm not an international celebrity," said Peltola.

She also was vocal about her support of abortion rights.

"It's been very attractive to a lot of people to have a message of working together and positivity and holding each other up and unity and as Americans none of us are each other's enemy," Peltola said. "That is just a message that people really need to hear right now."

The term she is filling is only four more months, right? Wonder if mail out ballots had anything to do with the upset?   At least Alaska has time to fix the problem before the midterms.

New voting system, special election for someone who will serve a couple of months before the seat is up for grabs again. Dems are predictably trying to spin this as a sign of things to come, but I don't think there's much to see here.

Alaska is a weird state politically. It is considered conservative but its citizens are addicted to government handouts. The money is actually from the oil and gas industry, but it is laundered by the state. Thier senators have historically been masters of pork.

As far Palin. She apparently has irritated many Alaskans with all her gallivanting around the country.

But that aside, even though Alaska is the largest State in the country, only a small portion of land is private, so most of the population resides in only a few places, and since most aren't touched by big govt in a negative way, they don't have issues with politicians. This is where you're Right, they love subsidies.

Palin is not seen as a great savior, nor is her opponent viewed as evil, and yeah, many see this as "What will you do for ME?
Thing about Alaska is, if not for govt, they wouldn't exist. So who represents them can be a moot point.

But as trump told us, patriots armed with Artificial Intelligence are standing be to catch them in real time, so we should expect to see alot of races refuse to certify. The fight over many races will prbly go all the way into January, with new massive evidence of voter fraud for 2022 coming out the entire time.

Nope. She was the most popular candidate, but that election system makes it impossible for someone like her to be elected.

My Take on this is it is a harbinger of things to come in November. We can speculate all we want on the political intricacies of Alaska Politics but lets face it THE DEMS CHEATED THIER ASSES OFF AGAIN.  They went all out too. Sarah is hated and feared worse than Trump, lets not forget that debate with moron Joe where she showed him to be the blubbering fool he is, Palin as speaker of the house would have the left collective heads spinning like the excorcist victim spewing green slime.

Does anyone really believe that this Native American unknown could best Sarah, the former Gov who was real popular and whose Husband is Native American also?  Govt subsidies? C'mon the oil and gas people payout millions to every Alaska resident and who is shutting down the drilling and pipelines?
