Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) seeks to reduce Florida's reliance on the federal government by resurrecting a World War II civilian force.

In a press conference on Thursday, DeSantis proposed allocating $3.5 million of his budget to reestablishing the Florida State Guard. Unlike the Florida National Guard, the FSG would answer solely to the governor. In addition, there would be no federal deployments, federal missions or federal funding.

"The Florida State Guard will act as a civilian volunteer force that will have the ability to assist the National Guard in state-specific emergencies. This funding will support necessary training, equipment, and other support functions for up to 200 members, who can aid in the response to hurricanes, natural disasters and other state emergencies. We want to be able to have a quick response capability," said DeSantis.

On the surface  it  sounds  like a good idea but even though im sure DeSantis would  use  it wisely my  fear  is it will grow  and grow and grow and  one day could be a far  left  governors SA.

What part of Citizen Militia do you not get? We have a Nation today because good people came to together in defense of their State.

That was then and this  is  now. Military, FBI, CIA, Police are are  being  corrupted. A state guard sounds wonderful until a  left winger  populates  it with social justice warriors.

Can you explain how its  liberal to not want another expansion of govt? And while DeSantis would be the first to use this State guard the day will come when a  liberal will populate it with social justice warriors. 40 years ago i doubt  many people would  have thought the FBI and CIA would become far  left groups complicit  in the attempted overthrow  of an elected president. Call me  liberal all you want but  i oppose any creation of a state guard knowing full well that  one day its going to be a  corrupt  left wing group.

I didn't call you a liberal, I said your posts reek of liberalism. Are there any other rights conservatives should give up just in case liberals come into power? Now I know why you are so in favor of rinos, they don't make liberals mad so you do not worry about retaliation?

Does anyone remember when Obama said that he needed a Citizen army...he meant one for the dems' use.  And they got one didn't they?  They actually got several.  BLM.  Auntifart, and UNions.

I believe that 23 other states currently have state militia forces along the lines of what DeSantis is proposing.

The question is, the next time Florida has a hurricane,
who will be in command on the scene?
FEMA, or the Florida State Guard?

Here's what you get with FEMA:

In 2005, when Katrina struck New Orleans,
Richmond Indiana sent four medics to go help.

So picture yourself at the FEMA checkpoint.
An ambulance drives up, with "Richmond Fire Department" painted all over it.
Four guys step out, all in uniform.
Their ID cards all say, "Certified medic, State of Indiana."
What would you do?  Here's what FEMA did:

They made the medics wait for three weeks
while FEMA did a background check on each one!
Even after they all passed the background check,
FEMA never told them of any situation where medics were needed.
The medics got fed up and went home.

Several years ago, when tornadoes struck SW Missouri,
the local officials told FEMA to stay the **** out!

Looks to me like DeSantis is preparing to do the same on a larger scale in Florida.
