Chicago Teacher Has Students Dress Up for 'Tie Tuesday' to 'Show Them a Different Side of the World'


"When I wear my tie, I feel I am a businessman," one student said.

"Tie Tuesday helped me in class by motivating me to keep my grades up," another explained.

Another student told Fox 32, "I like it because I just think we look fancy."

As I closed out my career I continued to wear a starched shirt and tie when I called on agencies while others in the industry had evolved to business casual. I believed it separated me and sent a message that I was there to do business. In today's world it is not as difficult to separate one from their competitors.

This reminds me of something that happened about ten years ago.
There was a charter school in Cincinnati
that was THE top performing school in the state.
It had students wear a coat and tie at all times in the classroom.
That continually sent the message that
EDUCATION IS IMPORTANT!

What happened to the school is,
about halfway through one school year,
the state Department of Education
changed the funding formula for charter schools.
They did it retroactively.
The school could not survive losing that much funding.
So it had to close.
