Ford chose a VP (Nelson Rockefeller).
Congress approved the choice.

Interesting. Was Rockefeller already in a position in the administration or was he from outside?

When Ford chose Nelson Rockefeller to be VP,
Rockefeller was Governor of New York,
and had been for fifteen years.

Quote from: T Hunt on September 21, 2021, 01:00:27 PMHey that makes me wonder, if they remove biden and install harris as the "first woman president" *cough cough* (as we always thought they would) then how does she get a VP? Does she just choose whoever she wants or does someone beneath her move up?
This is just a rant or a what if BUT, could get real interesting. Takes a majority in both houses to confirm a V.P. The Republicans in the senate would not give the dems any votes, so no V.P. The dems could not impeach harris, same situation, not enough votes. Impeaching Harris with no V.P. would put pelosi in the W.H. I can not see the republicans doing that.( However after the midterms it would be a different situation, different speaker of the house,) Harris has less power than biden, so we would be looking at a dead government until Trump is returned. It would be interesting to see who Harris would want as V.P though, I would guess it would be someone who would not be smarter than she was, who was not more likeable, that pretty much would be a fence post.

Perhaps but I always thought it would likely be Hillary

The same way Obama chose Biden.

While we're at it, looks like the same reason Bush 41 chose Dan Quayle.

"Congress approved the choice."

That is a key factor.

I think it would have to be a sort of "chain of command" thing.  Hillary isn't elected to anything and doesn't hold an office.  Pelosi (presently) is third in line...  I think she's chomping at the bit.  It's just a matter of tossing Harris to the same woodpile they're tossing Biden to.  But again...  just my own thoughts. But it is exactly the way President Trump said it would go down, not long after the 2020 election.

Well, yes and no. If Biden is removed, Harris is pres. If Harris passes on or is removed before she can get a V.P. voted for, speaker of the house is next in line. But, if Harris would somehow get someone passed by congress,(simple majority vote) that poor soul would become pres. In the unlikely event biden and Harris both would pass on, speaker of the house would be pres. If biden is removed, I can not see the republicans in the senate voting for anyone to be V.P. until after the midterms, but who knows.
