I would support term limits however, that in and of itself won't fix the issue. What also needs to be addressed is the millions of dollars that Democrats throw at them. What it amounts to is the wealthy liberals control everything and the poor working class slob foots the bill. This has got to stop!

In the days of digital media do they really need that much money to get their message out to millions?

Plus I think there is a whole campaign/election industry that has grown up, and I think that industry has very high prices inflated by the fact that business is a sure thing, sorta like college.
College got more expensive partially because the gvt guaranteed business. Likewise I think campaigning has become overly expensive, more so than the market would normally allow.

The motive for term limits is good but there are challenges to be addressed. You want a candidate of merit. You are asking a person to interupt their career for 2 years for the House of Representatives and six years for a Senator. Without political parties, you could have dozens of candidates. No primaries to weed out the goats. Prior to the election, they will need to spend a year campaigning. If they lose, they will have spent a lot of money and be unemployed. If they win, they will have spent a lot of money and be unemployed.
Serving in politics would look good on ones resume, sorta like military service.

QuoteI don't know how many of you have run for office at the State or Federal level but it is expensive and places a lot of stress on the family. Consider what kind of person would have the resourses to be willing to do this. Winners will be determined by name recognition and money. It is a valid idea on paper but to get it to work will require a lot of modification to the electoral process.

Its not supposed to be so expensive, thats part of the problem. The more expensive it is then the less amount of people available to do the job. The point is that we want the lowest workers to be able to be president, if they are the right person for the job. We want class out of politics.

In our not too distant past, it was considered a civic duty to run for office, do what is good for the country.
Unfortunately, special interests got involved and it went to shit. What we really need to do is limit corporate donations, just as they do with single individuals.

And put an end to all these "charitable foundations" these pols are using to bypass all the rules.

It  may have  been william buckley who said take random names from the  phone  book and  it would result  in better representatives.

That's for dayum sure. For all the damage the assholes that came out of that shithole have done to this country it should be razed to the ground and no two stones left standing.
Crazy but not stupid!
