U.S. Has Only Trained 60 Syrian Fighters to Fight ISIS

QuoteThe United States was only training about 60 Syrian opposition fighters to battle Islamic State as of July 3, far below expectations, partly due to rigorous U.S. vetting of recruits, Defense Secretary Ash Carter told Congress on Tuesday.

"We are looking for ways to streamline our train and equip program's vetting process to get more recruits into the training pipeline," Carter told a Senate hearing in prepared remarks.

Even if you vet recruits "rigorously" you should at least be able to train, say, a few thousand of them in the amount of time the administration was given. It's not that difficult to find out whether someone's a secret radical or not. At least, not if you know what you're doing and have good intelligence on the ground – either from yourself or from allies. And no, I don't accept Hot Air's Jazz Shaw's view that it's impossible to vet anyone. If that were the case, they wouldn't be vetting 7.000 people right now.

Alerted to the shocking number of trainees who survived the program and actually became threats to his Islamic State bunk-mates, Hussein the Magnificentâ„¢ immediately ordered beheading of all trainers to discourage further success.

Perhaps 6 + years of Obama have made me a tad bit cynical...

Why do "Syrian Fighters" need to be "trained" to fight ISIS?

Did the fledgling Continental Army need to have foreign countries come in and train our Minute Men? Dispite all of the technological trappings of modern warfare, the concept is still rather basic - kill your enemy before he does the same to you!

If the "Syrian Fighters" really want to fight ISIS, they will find a way to do so!

I have a feeling that this "Training Syrian Fighters" is just a work around to get "boots on the ground".

It is the same way things started in Vietnam!

I understand one big issue is vetting the fighters. This is understandable. How do we determine who are our friends and who are our enemies? The last thing we need is to voluntarily arm ISIS as they are getting enough of our resources from Iraqi's abandoning their weapons. the problem I see is Obama is doing an LBJ with his strategy. Take your pick on this. He is either trying to run out the clock or really does not want to defeat the heathens.

No question about it.  He does not really want to defeat the heathens!  His loyalties have always been with the savages.

The biggest problem we have is not having any eyes on the ground.  We are only flying about 12 sorties a day, and half of them come back with their munitions.

We need spotters on the ground who can blend in.

I am surprised with our new sophisticated Military Satellite, they can not tell what a ant is doing on the ground.   It's more like b o is just trying to look good, without doing too much damage.

Exactly!!

He is giving them as much breathing room as possible!  The random sorties are just for political cover at home.  And the LIV really don't care!
