I can't believe it took me so long to learn about the Yom Kippur war.
From a military standpoint, it is one of the most interesting wars in recent history.
I am biased pro Israel BTW.

The Egyptian army achieved all of its objectives in a shorter time and with fewer casualties than they believed possible. They dug in on the east side of Suez and waited for a cease fire. Then president Sadat stabbed them in the back and made them advance which was never part of  the plan.He wanted to help Syria which was losing. This lead to their loss.

There is an interesting netflix movie "The Angel"  (2018)about an Egyptian double agent. The Arabic parts are English subtitled. There are lots of good documentaries.

The 6 Day war had another name aside from "Israel Kicked the Muscums Ass", war?
If it's a Netflix production, I wouldn't give it too much credibility if I were you.

The 1967 six day war was as you said. The October War was in 1973. I only recently learned about how well the Egyptian Army did in the October war.

I first learned about the Egyptian double or triple agent in a book by Howard Blum, The Eve of Destruction.  He was real. The Angel was good and accurate as far as I can tell.He was the son in law of Nassar and then worked closely with Sadat.  I read that both Egypt and Israel erected statutes to the guy. It is not certain who he was working for! He gave mostly good information to the Israels. Was he the boy who cried wolf so the Israelis would ignore him when he warned of the real invasion???

in 1973 the Egyptians had little air force and not enough offensive weapons to cause the Israelis much concern. The Israelis were arrogant anyway.  The Egyptians asked the Russians for offensive weapons but were only given SAMs and Sagger two man infantry operated anti tank missiles.

The Israelis had built high sand dunes on the Eastern side of Suez with small fortifications at regular intervals. it would take a long time to breach them so Israeli armor and jets could respond.  No worries.

The Egyptians bought some high pressure high volume pumps from maybe Germany and started to practice. They also did the same with modern pontoon bridging equipment.

The Israelis did something that gave the Egyptians the opportunity to claim fear of Israeli invasion do they started drilling on the western side of Suez and strutting around, off and on for a long time. The Israelis got used to it.

At 2 PM most Israeli troops were back home in Synagogue for Yom Kippur.
The Egyptians bombed the eastern side of suez and crossed the canal in rafts.
The pontoon bridges followed with the high pressure pumps and hoses which cut through the sand banks. Tanks followed.

When Israeli jets responded they were blown out of the sky by the SAMs. When Israeli armor got there they were blown apart by the wire guided Saggers.
The Egyptians  dug in on the eastern bank protected by the SAMs and Saggers. They had achieved all their objectives and were waiting for a cease fire.

Then Syria was losing and they whined so the Egyptian president forced the army to advance beyond the SAM protection and they got clobbered by Israels.

Ahhh, I missed much of this since I was stationed on the Korean DMZ. Though I do remember seeing newsclips at the time, which was extremely violent, thank You Jimmuh Carter for creating such a mess....
