Title: Three quarters of young Americans couldn’t join the military if they wanted to
Post by: walkstall on February 24, 2018, 09:20:01 AM
I would say at time of war they would not be that picky.

snip~
Nearly three-quarters of young Americans are ineligible to serve in the United States military due to obesity, criminal record, or lack of education, according to a new report by the Heritage Foundation.

The contracted pool of Americans aged 17 to 24 who are fit to enlist in the armed services poses an "alarming" threat to national security and risks derailing the Trump administration's path to rebuilding a depleted military, the report found, citing Pentagon data.

The Pentagon estimates that 24 million of the 34 million Americans between 17 and 24 years old, or 71 percent, are unable to serve.

Health problems are the greatest obstacle to military service, with more than half of the young people who are ineligible for service suffering from a health issue.

Not surprised in the least. With the advent of social media and video games, much of those age worthy of Military service is sedentary, add to that, the removal of PE from schools, kids are horribly out of shape.

When was the last time a kid walked 5 mile so he could go swinging or see a move.

Is Liberalism the central reason?

Good question actually.
The answer is yes, but in truth, both party's full of leftists are to blame.
I guess much of it started in the courts with lawsuits filed against schools when kids got hurt being kids.
So one could say the real problem started with tort cases, which is why there has been a huge cry for tort reform, and why neither party wanted to address it.
If kids aren't forced to exercise in school, many don't get any at all.

Back when I was a liberal, I couldn't join the military because I tried to advocate cannabis. Now I'm more conservative and feel like I need to be because America seems to have an internal war that we are just barely winning. We've got so many immigrants that we could easily get sabotaged in many areas of our government. What's our line of defense if Africa is suddenly secretly united and they covertly declare war on us. It makes me wonder how many active reserves are in my area. I really hope we keep our military stocked with enough people to fend off the threat of war.

What flashed into my mind as I read this was that commercial where the fat kid 'walks' the dog on the treadmill and then phones disabled grandma for another soda pop.

I actually try not to think like one of those 'conspiracy' guys, but the softening of the last two generations by encouraging self-indulgence, low expectations, low ambitions, produced a whiny population unfit for any resistance whether the threat is physical, moral, or intellectual.

The progressives- who are anything but *progressive*- have gifted this nation with a massive supply of Nancy-boys and those poor creatures must appear to the hard-body aggressors as 'ripe fruit'.

And, might I add, I see this as neither a democrat nor a republican problem but a cultural problem we have brought upon ourselves.

(Have you ever tried imagining the consequences that loss of cell phone capability would bring to our youth?)

Yeah, it is a cultural problem, one the left manipulated to their advantage of killing off the American spirit of "Can Do".

Can you imagine the crippling issues this Nation would suffer if the need arose to call for a Draft? Heaven forbid!

DRAFT?! Man, I would not want to be a DI.

Try imagining that duty.

Ughhh, I joined during the draft with a bunch of draftees, nearly half were kicked out near the beginning of basic training, the rest?
Well, many wound up cooks, this explains army food.

Food???

Anyhow, even the Marines admit to watering-down all sorts of 'demands' and requirements of recruits. We must be *diverse* and open to the sexually confused as well as the 110# females.

Post-Obama military ain't what we knew.

No worries.

When has the military been anywhere close to 1/4 of the youth anyway? Not even during the Vietnam draft years.

Having an all-volunteer military automatically weeds out a large majority of those who would not qualify, because they won't volunteer in the first place.

It's a small percentage of any human population that has the capacity to put the needs of society above their own needs and safety. And the progs' corruption of the education system has shrunk that percentage. That is why I will never support any type of conscript military. You cannot force a person to accept that which they have no ability to comprehend.
