Who has given us freedom of religion.

It is the Soldier, not the reporter
Who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the Soldier, not the poet
Who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the Soldier, not the campus organizer
Who has given us freedom to protest.

It is the Soldier, not the lawyer
Who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is the Soldier, not the politician
Who has given us the right to vote.

The soldier is trained to follow orders.  He is led by the Commander In Chief.  In this country, the CIC is the President, elected by the people.  We have yet to have a military coup, and it's highly unlikely that we ever will.  So your version could fit into the history of another country, like No. Korea, but it doesn't and hasn't applied to this one.

What I was saying is if the soldier can grant you these things then the soldier can also take it away as in conquest of a free nation or a coup under orders.   It is a double edge sword to the concept of the soldier and what the soldier does.   In North Korea, the soldier has taken away all of these things listed.   I was talking about the soldier as a concept in an abstract sense not the specific soldiers that exist in the USA.   Militaries as a whole can have a lot of power to them and a government's edict is worth the vibrations in the air and the paper it is written on without the military and/or police to enforce the edict.   I believe (may be wrong) Andrew Jackson and the congress that was in at the time passed some kind of law or edict and Jackson didn't like it so he as the commander in chief said "go enforce it."   

Dori, you're right.  More than likely it will not happen here.   Here is why.  Not only does our government have a system of checks and balances, we also check the government as well and the government checks the people as well through what is allowed constitutionally, lawfully, morally and legally. 

People check each other as well.   The idea of checks and balances not only is a construct of our government but   throughout our culture as well.  Liberty and our rights will not die because we all keep talking about it and keep fighting for it in various ways.  In essence, people don't shut up about it.   The meme is kept alive because of this.

One great thing about the USA is the checks and balances that exist in our society.   We all can come online and debate and hash all of this out and in front street.

There is another that exists that and without this the checks and balances wouldn't exist and that is freedom of speech and being able to put our various views out there to discuss and/or mock if we wished.

Your point is well made and in theory has merit. The problem we currently have is the opposition party does not have the courage to implement the checks and balances. As Solar points out Obama knows the military could implement them so he is gutting the service branches.

Yep, in fact, it's safe to say the leadership of both party's share an goal in what they're doing to the US in concert as crony capitalists.

Yeah, I never once thought Hussein was so arrogant as to assume he could ever get the Military to turn against the American public, but I've always believed he thought they would turn against his scrawny commie ass.
