Ok, not war yet, maybe never. But I am curious as to how others view a possible clash between our naval forces and those of Iran. Such incidents preceded WWII between us and the Japanese. I suspect our own Navy will be under orders to act circumspectly, but I wonder if the Iranians will do the same. I'm sure they have a low opinion of Obama and may act provocatively just because he is President and they know he is a wimp.

"A fleet of Iranian warships arrived near the southern coast of Yemen on Wednesday in a move likely to add greater tension in a developing U.S.-Iranian standoff in the region, according Iranian military leaders.

Just days after the United States announced it would send its own warships to Yemen in order to prevent Iran from smuggling weapons to terror forces fighting there, a flotilla of Iranian destroyers docked in the same area.

Iran's military moves are likely to increase tensions between the two countries as each seeks to bolster opposing sides in the fight currently unfolding in Yemen.

An Iranian fleet including a destroyer warship and a helicopter-carrying warship arrived in the waters off the southern tip of Yemen on Wednesday, according to Iranian state-controlled media.

The warships will "protect [Iran's] cargo ships and oil tankers against pirates," according to Iran's Fars News Agency.

The United States and other countries fear Iran is using these cargo ships to deliver weapons and other deadly hardware to opposition forces in Yemen.

The Iranian warships will remain in the area for at least three months, according to Fars.

Iranian military officials have been defiant about the country's presence in the region, vowing to remain there despite pressure from other countries.

"This presence [of Iranian warships] continues in the free waters, including the Gulf of Aden, to fight against piracy according to the plan which was drawn at the request of the International Maritime Organization and no one can warn the Iranian warships (to move away) and this has not happened yet," Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari was quoted as saying in the Iranian press over the weekend.

"We don't have such a plan" to leave the area anytime soon "and we hope that security will be established in the Gulf of Aden with the help of all countries," Sayyari said.

"There is no need for our flotilla of warships to dock in Yemen, but we are present in the Gulf of Aden powerfully and at present, our 34th fleet has been sent to the region," he added.

Iran will not be deterred by threats from Saudi Arabia or other countries to leave the region, Sayyari said."

The next President is going to have a huge mess to clean up.  What will be require to regain our status of military dominance in the world?  This is exactly why we must have a very strong and shrewd leader with military sense.

Remember what Iran did the minute Reagan stepped into the Oval Office?  They released our Embassy hostages immediately!  Reagan did not DO a thing except hold a "big stick".  Carter was so weak that Iran loathed him for it.  The same can be said for Obama.  Arabs despise weakness!  But Iran knew that Reagan would not put up with their intimidation.  So, they dropped their weapons and ran!

The question is..... can we survive the next two years on the world stage with this weeny in the WH?  We now know that he has allowed a fifth of America's uranium to be controlled by Russians.... via Hillary at the State Dept.

He is seriously attempting to mitigate our superior edge among the super powers.  It may be up to our military to intervene in his   foreign policy decisions.  He has difficulty keeping a Secretary of Defense because of his stupidity in world affairs.  The Pentagon has virtually been rendered irrelevant and all shots are called from the WH.  If that does not change soon, we risk serious consequences in the middle east.

Have no fear.  Obama sent our aircraft carrier the Theodor Roosevelt to send a message to the Iranians.  "Speak softly and carry a big stick" now has a new meaning.

This is all for public consumption in the US. He would never confront his buddies the Iranians as a confrontation would end in a lot of sunken Iranian ships. If that were to happen it would be the end of his and Kerry's fantasy of a nuke deal.

US protection and committments doesn't mean anything anymore, might as well just become part of a neo-warsaw pact instead. At least Putin doesn't give up on his allies as seen in Syria and he doesn't beg like a dog to his country's enemies for one sided deals that only benefits the enemy.
