For some reason the older I get the more I am into the events that led up to and the events during the 2nd world war.  Those that went through that, both in the war and at home, they were just a different breed of Americans.  I have so much respect for them and what they accomplished.

My dad was in the battle of the bulge.  I remember, this would be back in the 60's when I was a kid.  You always had the urge to go through stuff...found a pistol in large wooden container on his dresser.  Asked him about it and he said it was from Czechoslovakia....at the time he didn't say anything else.  Then when I was married and older we sat down one night...late...drank a beer with him...and he told me about some of what he went through.  That was the only time we every talked about.  He did earn a bronze star for helping save some of his fellow soldiers.  Not many of those warriors left alive.

So much respect for those people....our young today....not a whole lot of them that can stand up to what these people were and what they went through.

Clip is pretty much D-Day footage....brave men for sure...

think about those men in the d-day Higgins boat right as they were preparing to land on the beach.  Not knowing if you would be killed or if you would kill a German soldier.

D-Day fact:

Over 425,000 Allied and German troops were killed, wounded or went missing during the Battle of Normandy. This figure includes over 209,000 Allied casualties, with nearly 37,000 dead amongst the ground forces and a further 16,714 deaths amongst the Allied air forces.

Throughout history this is one characteristic that continues to haunt the human species...WAR AND KILLING

Have you seen any of the interviews on the "Memoirs of WWII" channel? They're fascinating and really well produced.

I watch AHC (American Hero Channel) all the time...I think many of the shows you talk about are on both channels.  Getting to a point where were gonna lose all of those warriors (age).  The younger generation coming up can't hold a candle to what that generation of warriors went through.  Thats one reason why so many of the young kids now are like they are....attitude of "what can you do for me".
