Chinese fleet in West Philippine Sea similar to purpose-built maritime militia vessels





MANILA, Philippines — The Chinese vessels seen in line formation near Julian Felipe (Whitsun) Reef off the coast of Palawan appear similar to purpose-built vessels of China's maritime militia, an analyst said.

Andrew Erickson, a professor at the China Maritime Studies Institute at the US Naval War College, noted that the 220 ships photographed in the coral reef in the West Philippine Sea look and operate like the steel-hulled vessels that lead the Sansha City Maritime Militia.

On Saturday, the National Task Force for the West Philippine Sea and the Philippine Coast Guard confirmed that Chinese fishing vessels, believed to be part of China's maritime militia, have been located on the reef on March 7.

China sends more jets; Taiwan says it will fight to the end if there's war

China sent more fighter jets into Taiwan's air defense zone on Wednesday in a stepped up show of force around the island Beijing claims as its own, and Taiwan's foreign minister said it would fight to the end if China attacks.
The democratic self-governed island has complained of repeated military activities by Beijing in recent months, with China's air force making almost daily forays in Taiwan's air defense identification zone. On Monday, China said an aircraft carrier group was exercising close to the island.
Taiwan's Defence Ministry said 15 Chinese aircraft including 12 fighters entered its air defense identification zone, with an anti-submarine aircraft flying to the south through the Bashi Channel between Taiwan and the Philippines.
Taiwan's air force sent up aircraft to intercept and warn the Chinese away, the ministry added.
Adding to the stepped up military action near Taiwan, the US Navy said the guided missile destroyer USS John S. McCain conducted a "routine" transit of the Taiwan Strait on Wednesday.
China's Eastern Theatre Command said it tracked the ship and denounced the United States for "endangering the peace and stability of the Taiwan Strait."
Speaking earlier in the day, Taiwan Foreign Minister Joseph Wu said the United States was concerned about the risk of conflict.
"From my limited understanding of American decision makers watching developments in this region, they clearly see the danger of the possibility of China launching an attack against Taiwan," he told reporters at his ministry.
"We are willing to defend ourselves without any questions and we will fight the war if we need to fight the war. And if we need to defend ourselves to the very last day we will defend ourselves to the very last day."
China's Taiwan Affairs Office and the US State Department did not respond to requests for comment on Wu's remarks. China has said its activities around Taiwan are aimed at protecting China's sovereignty. The United States has expressed concern about China's movements, and said its commitment to Taiwan is "rock solid."

Taiwan said Wednesday that it is willing to shoot down Chinese drones that have been flying near Taiwan-occupied Pratas Island in the South China Sea, a response to what analysts view as the latest pressure tactic from Beijing.

Ocean Affairs Council Chair Lee Chung-wei told Taiwan's legislature that the Taiwanese coastguard had recently identified Chinese unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) operating near Pratas, which sits about 170 nautical miles to the southeast of Hong Kong in the northern part of the South China Sea.

Lee indicated that Taiwanese forces would open fire on UAVs that fly over the island, which is also claimed by the People's Republic of China.

"If we need to open fire, we will open fire," Lee said, noting that the drones have thus far only circled Pratas and that similar activity has not been observed near Itu Aba — Taiwan's base in the Spratly Islands which lie further south.

Lee did not specify what kinds of drones China has been sending to Pratas.

These drone flights, which Lee described as "gray zone" activity, come as China is ramping up pressure on Taiwan.

I read an article written by an anon who worked on some of or satellite defense systems. He stated, "hypothetically speaking", that we have developed a fan scan laser system.
Meaning, it transmits down a 1000 mile wide beam that quickly scans the ocean, about a eighth inch thick beam 1000 miles across, as it passes over the sea, it quickly identifies every vessel on the surface, eliminates friendlies while identifying others that may be suspicious.

Pretty amazing stuff, in essence, facial recognition for ships. Oh, and he said it does far more and he only just scratched the surface of its potential.

What we know so far:
The vessel went missing while conducting a torpedo drill.

"It is possible that during static diving, a blackout occurred so control was lost and emergency procedures cannot be carried out and the ship falls to a depth of 600-700 meters," the Navy said in a statement."

Given the propensity for News media to lie, fabricate and expound on a story that suits the interest of the Democrats, I'm not entirely sure what to believe. Is the submarine really missing? Did the Chinese use it for target practice? Did the Russians use it for target practice? Did Iran sink it? Where there Nuclear weapons on board? Does the government know more than what they are claiming? Anything is possible.

That is the best statement, and we'll probably never know what really happened.

If we go to war with China, it should NOT be because of Taiwan. A better reason would be the Chinese Navy trying to control the sea lanes and interfering with trade.
