I am fond of military aviation, but I believe there are several errors in this movie. It is not clear what time period shoud this be, but since it depicts German fighters over Britain, it looks like it's during the Battle of Britain, and at that time period Spitfires had small caliber machine guns which couldn't have possibly chopped a Messerschmitt's wing off. With the one wing of both aircraft broken in half, they couldn't have landed on their fuselages like that, they would have immediately spinned around and crashed. Military pilots shared mutual respect for each other, also they needed to be cold-blooded people, and it is not likely that they would have chased each other with rage and shooting to kill like that. But interesting short movie anyway.

He didn't shoot his wing off, he sacrificed his wing in order to clip the other planes wing.
I agree both would have bailed with a chute, but as to not chasing one as "code of war"?BS!
When someone kills your friend, it becomes personal, and I don't know anyone that would have reacted differently, he didn't kill him after all.
Oh, and there's nothing indicating it took place over Britain, or you'd have seen them over water as well.

I watched the opening scene where he shoots the wing off, then it explodes in flame?|
OK, that was a bit of a stretch, OK, it's was pure BS, considering there is nothing in the wing even remotely considered flammable.

But the point of the piece is the depiction of Ireland taking on a Sweedish stance of neutrality, or as historians note, cowardice.

Ok, I understand they wanted more dramatization in this short movie because it needed to be intense. To sacrifice your wing in order to clip the other plane's wing at that low altitude, at which you don't have the time to bail out with your parachute safely, would be a suicidal idea. More reasonable thing to do would be to try to cut the enemy's tail by your propeller. That way, you would have made your enemy lose his aircraft's controls and crash into the ground, and you would have probably destroyed your propeller, but still have had both your wings left intact in order to try to land on your fuselage. But to collide at that low altitude, then to start rolling uncontrollably, and finaly both aircraft to land perfectly safely on their fuselages, ha ha, not even in a wildest dream. Anyway, you have inspired me to use again my Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 3 after a long time, although it's a bit crappy and old, but still good enough to have some fun shooting some enemies down, lol.

Just be sure and keep that imaginary wing tank empty so as not to have it shot, blowing off your wing and bursting into flames.
This is a problem when a director ignores his experts and goes for effect over reality.
But like all movies, and I do mean all, you, as the audience member will always be forced to sacrifice intellect if you want to be entertained.
If directors didn't take extreme liberties, no one would watch.
