A Corporal of Horse in the British Army, Harrison now holds the record for the longest confirmed sniper kill in combat, at a range of 2,475 m. He beat the previous record of 2,430 m set by Rob Furlong in 2002.

Those are amazing feats. So many variables.
Fixed position rifles defending a zone must be quite the deterrent.
Browning makes a machine gun in this caliber. Stationary or mobile, a handful of those around
every American town could provide law enforcement and civilian defense with additional
defensive punch in the event a foreign army should be contemplating a visit.
These guys are awesome. A true silent, invisible game changer. The bad guys literally flop over and the bad guys around them never even heard or saw anything to react to.
My vote goes to Sgt Carlos Hathcock, USMC. He started the modern day "mile club" in Vietnam, but he just grabbed an M-16 and let it fly. No crazy scopes, spotters-partners, laptops. Probably just threw some spit on the sights like a revolutionary war squirrel hunter, and nailed some guy from a mile.

My much younger brother was a sniper in Vietnam for two tours. He did not like talking about his work as he called it.
snipers are genius! but once they are spotted...puh god bless.
Eventually, even newbie snipers will have recorded kills at 2 miles with the EXACTO laser guided bullet program from DARPA.

Hatchock used a Winchester model 70 with an 8X Unertl Scope....not an M-16
