Post by: The Scholar on January 16, 2012, 12:53:51 PM
Im all about interaction in this forum so, let me know what everyone's top five favorite games are. Mine are:

1.Oblivion
2. Fallout 3

Im an Xbox nerd. Im not much of a big Call of Duty fan or anything like that. I like using my imagination in games because thats just the most fun!! Anyways, how about all of your favorite games. And this can be included on all systems, or just one. I mean, Im a fan of every system, I've had most of them. Doom, the original.
Quake series, the 1st and 2nd being my all time favorites.
And the one I have been playing nonstop for more than a year now, Borderlands with all game add-ons and games.
Which I started a thread on in review form in this forum.

Just like my dad. He plays that game ALL THE TIME! haha, he only knows how to play that one, NCAA, and Madden. And thats only because those games tell you how to play them in the beginning with a tutorial. Without a tutorial, trust me, he would do without. Haha

I saw the Borderlands review. That game was pretty cool. Those kinds of graphics are weird to me. I don't know why. But it is pretty cool though, I like the story line, and it does have some pretty funny humor. I love games that are sort of Post Apocalyptic like Borderlands. I really want to get back into it though, but my problem is I can't stick with one game before I move onto another one, just like books too, Haha

I too usually move on to games rather quickly, bought 12 of the latest, played for a short time and tossed them.
Fallout 3 was pretty entertaining, but I got really bored of having to walk everywhere.
I guess thats why I like borderlands so much, with the add ons you get an entirely different game.
If you have the game, pick up Knox's Armory, you won't regret it, you can level up to at least 70.
But you're right about the graphics, they kind of suck, but you get used to it after awhile...

If you add up all real golf I play, and the times I played this game, Hussen STILL has played more real golf!  Must be nice to have that kind of time...

I've played those others, but haven't played them enough to compete with anyone.  My brother is good at all of them, and when he lived with me, I was his virtual practice dummy...

Final Fantasy XIII. It has more than a few screw ups and it's way too linear, But I'm a completionist, and all I need is a few more five star attacks and the rest of the items.

I really enjoyed Final Fantasy 7, Final Fantasy 8 was soso, Final Fantasy 9 was okay, but I could never get into the new more "realistic" character look and feel of the game.

My personal favorites are
1. Imperium Galactica 2 Alliances
2. Europa Universalis 3 (can't wait for 4)
3. Fallout 2-3
4. Deus Ex
5. Dawn of War 1-2

If i was doing a top 10 list it would continue

6. Hears of Iron 2 (the third one was too easy)
7. Baldurs Gate 1-2 & Icewind Dale
8. Farcry (the original on PC)
9. Half Life (everything)
10. C&C series (C&C, RA, TS, RA2, Generals) I miss westwood :(

I also enjoy many simulation games, and depending on my mood dungeon keeper, theme hospital, sacrafice, sim city also have their place on my top ten list  I'm prorably forgetting 20 other games I really enjoy too though.

I have the exact same problem with most games and books, my library is filled with history books I only read half way through before starting on a new book.

Castle Wolfenstein
Doom
Quake, II, and III somewhat, but they went towards the online play BS and forgot their roots of single player, though I hear their next Quake release returns to the early days and the story will continue.
Borderlands and to really enjoy it, you must have the expansion pack, completely changes the game for the best.
Farcry I definitely yes, II was pretty good and III open world is simply amazing, story line eats up too much game play.

What about the Duke?

Doom is good, but Duke Nukem 3D now that was the FPS of the century. Too bad the remake sucked balls of steel.

That reminds me, I bought the latest Duke nukem and never finished playing it, just got bored.
But it had some redeeming qualities, the over the top vanity for one...OK, that's all I remember.

About doom, if you have 360 you can get it on the arcade. Its cool and got good community features.

For example you can see the speed playthroughs of doom pro's amazing stuff. Check your score and time on each level against friends etc. And playing doom with a controller is much more sweet than keyboard/mouse.

1. Wolfenstein 3D, the GODFATHER of FPS
2. Doom 95 -- first version of Doom to run in Windows
3. Terminal Velocity
4. Return to Castle Wolfenstein
5. Asteroids

All these are PC games except Asteroids, which I used to play on an Atari 2600. The PC is by far the best and most flexible game platform ever, and the games I listed probably have never even been released for game platforms.

Wolfenstein 3D will always be my #1 because it was quite literally the direct progenitor of the Doom series, the Quake series, and a lot of other FPS games, on PC and game machines.

I can't answer it.  Probably because of the immersion-factor.  If it's good, whatever I'm playing is my fave.
