I wanted to open a dedicated topic, but I saw this one, and thought it was just fine.

I bought a better computer and a larger monitor last year, so finally I had a chance to get involved into DCS World this spring. And I must say my impressions are not that good. I bought a P-51D Mustang, a Mirage 2000C, and a P-47D Thunderbolt. I plan to buy a MiG-21bis too, because of the Serbian livery. But I am flying only the warbirds for now, that is the Mustang most of the time, because it is my kind of thing, I am not sure whether I will be using the jets at all, but I am planning to. The program itself is zero user friendly, and there is no customer support whatsoever. Their ED Forums aro no better, everyone acts smart, and everyone knows nothing, every time I ask for some help, I receive no responds. I just have to rely on You Tube videos and tutorials. And the modules are EXPENSIVE.

If I comment on the Mustang, the model looks great, but not quite finished yet, even for such an old DCS module like this. For example, the bombs obviously don't work properly, and it seems like bomb and rocket effects have been swapped. I can fly few training missions, but that's it. The mission editor is so complicated, that I am not sure when I will try to create some custom mission. There are online servers, but I find the environment is not that friendly. I was flying a Mustang, it took me half an hour just to reach the area where everyone was, when some freak from the same blue team in freaking F/A-18C Hornet shot me down with missiles, he even missed the first one. I remember using Microsoft CFS3 online long time ago, and it was FUN, we were gathering to fly around and chat, and it was GREAT time to spend.

To be honest, I wish I flew Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst, because of its awesome climb and turn rates, and the 30mm cannon, but it sucks the models are not historically accurate because in some countries the swastika is forbidden, also its gun sight sucks. I wish for a Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst with some friendly livery and the Mustang gun sight, but it ain't gonna happen. The Mustang gun sight is superb, though, but its climb and turn rates suck a bit. But it also has got fuel for export, unlike the other models, which is great. I can dogfight them until they run out of fuel, roflmfao.

But lets move to some action, Lt. Col. Silent Film in all his glory. Decades of various flight simulators paid off.

Mustang (Silent Film) vs. Dora (AI)

A one minute dogfight. My first recorded DCS World video. I am still new to GeForce Experience, I don't know why it recorded it at half speed when I replayed the track, I needed to accelerate the video speed two times to get the proper speed. It was probably some lowest level AI, lol, but who cares, AI cheats all the time anyway. And they say "sloppy guns", what do they know, except for acting smart. And it ain't freaking missile, warbirds are FUN.

That is one National-Socialist down. He ejected, but I did see no parachute, lol. It's raining National-Socialists, watch out.
Looks good though. As to playing online, there are always punks out for points, they shoot everyone, regardless.
Some even setup games to where you never have a chance, they make it so you have no escape, pick you off and you respawn in the same place and die again and again.

These little punks are usually preteen, haven't got a life and care nothing about etiquette.

Looks good though.

It is more about learning to fly a particular aircraft than to play a game with it. The models are very complex and close to the original.

The Mustang needed a 40 minutes long cockpit tutorial, and still it is not near enough to learn the cockpit and how it behaves in real situations.

I was thinking about my issue with the bombs, and then I remembered that I forgot to arm them before releasing them, roflmfao, so the bombs in Mustang work just fine.

Yeah, I remember the game, though I didn't think it was so much a game because of it's steep ass learning curve and lack of action.
I got a little ways into it but found it to be a bit choppy and eventually boring, but that may have been the initial release.

If I can't pick up a rock and throw it at rat at the shore of the river, without hours of precious time allotted to the breakdown of the rock, it's make up and origin of said igneous rocks weight and aerodynamics of the pile in the selection before me, I'm walking away, and so I did.

Lol, I'm on flight simulators more than three decades, ha ha ha, it has become my second nature.

Mustang (Silent Film) vs. Kurfürst (AI)

Bf 109 still gives me tons of trouble, can out-run me, can out-climb me, can out-dive me, can out-turn me, and got more powerful weapons. Making me push my P-51 to the maximum G, I wonder whether AI ever blacks-out.

My first skin ever made, a fictional RYAF Mustang.

Happy New Year!

P-51D Royal Yugoslav Air Force - Chetnik

It is the summer of 1944. The Chetniks in Serbia are saving American pilots downed by the Germans. A Mustang pilot has crash-landed on the Chetnik territory. He was rescued during the famous Halyard Mission. His Mustang has remained in the Chetnik service. Repaired, and repainted into the Royal Yugoslav Air Force livery, it is flown by a mysterious pilot with the call sign Silent Film, against the German occupiers of Yugoslavia, but also against the Yugoslav partisans and the invading Red Army.

On the left side of the nose, some talented peasant has drew a portrait of General Dragoljub Draža Mihailović, using chalk and charcoal. On the right side of the nose, a soldier has painted black Chetnik flag with white skull and bones, and inscription: "With faith in God - freedom or death!" The aircraft is based at the mountain airfield in the village of Pranjani.

This was very close.

New, third version of this livery. Thought the previous one was too colorful and unrealistic.

For my flying Ive been playing Battlestations: Pacific, its a game of WW2 and lets you personally control each plane and ship while also controlling all of the fleet to finish objectives.

It is Digital Combat Simulator World (DCS World), well not really a game but a realistic flight simulator.

https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com

It is good for flight realism, to learn how to use aircraft like in real life, it's actually very complex, especially regarding fighter jets, also not very user friendly, but it's not that good for gaming experience, I wish it was better in that sense.

To be honest, I wish I went for IL-2 instead, because I am mostly fond of warbirds and biplanes, and in DCS there are even no biplanes, they started with only fighter jets and BVR air combat, and later they also introduced warbirds because of the popular demand.

Aircraft modules are also very expensive, regular prices go from 25 USD to 80 USD for one module, but tons of effort and time were invested to develop each aircraft, so therefore the price. I only bought P-51 with no discount, it was my first aircraft and my favorite so far, everything else I bough on 50% discount or so, they also offer points for buying modules which offer you even more discount for next buying. Beside P-51, I also own P-47, Spitfire, Bf 109, MiG-19, MiG-21, F-14, and Mirage 2000, and also a few different maps. But I find the jets to be too complicated for me so far, I have only learned MiG-21 so-so, others just started learning.

Would I recommend DCS? Nooo. Except if you are a real aviation freak like me. But I also miss some civilian simulator, I will probably also go for some newer Microsoft Flight Simulator, I was using FS 2004 and some earlier versions, but it is kind of outdated now. I also came from outdated Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 3 (CFS 3) into DCS World.
