Love the concept of open world, love the game as well, but don't buy it just yet.
I've been playing it for a week now, but the bugs are so bad, I've had to use God cheat for most of the game just to get through it because of freezing up, I won't even go into the fact that sound is nonexistent. :glare:

Wait for the update to be released maybe next week.
I had mine installed at Best buy because I'd heard already that just to get the game up and running required several gigs of updates, and I'm guessing I was right because the tech at Best buy said he'd have it ready in a couple of hours, I didn't get it back till the following day, he said it downloaded for 8 straight hours via DSL connection.

I get it home, fire it up, only to have another gig plus download, and that was within 8 hours of their update.
Could you imagine buying a car, only to realize halfway home, that they had failed to install the glass, heat and air, and a transmission with just reverse working and half the frame on your car still missing?
Well that's what game makers get away with, and claim it's merely an update.

With that said, the game truly looks great, the immersion factor is off the chart, with a mix of first person shooter battling every known enemy on the planet, including ghouls and radiated/transformed animals, looting, pick pocketing.
And that's just following the games directions, or you can go rogue and play one man merc/murderer and simply raise havoc everywhere you go.
The powerups are endless, too many to even begin to list.
Suffice it to say, I can see playing a full month and still not completing 20% of the game.
But possibly a year of solid game play would be required to finish every aspect of the game.

Wow, sorry to hear about your problems, I've been playing since release day and only encountered one minor problem with the settlements thing.  I bought it via steam instead of in a store, 28GB download!  But they were good and pre-loaded it a few days before release so it didn't matter to me.

I'm starting to really get into the customizability.  Take your gun, search for parts, replace all the components, and have a supergun by the end.  I probably lost a full two days of work since it came out as I sneak in some playtime here and there.

I heard Steam downloads were the way to go, considering the DVD was pressed weeks in advance.
Do a search of Fallout 4 sound issues, I was shocked at the amount of fixes people were coming up with, and not one has worked so far.
But like I said, the game really is a work of art in all it's varying degrees of customization, from game play to weapons to taming wildlife, hacking bots or setting traps, it's all good.

I made the mistake of accidentally shooting the mayor with a nuke when I first entered Diamond city, it took days for them to forget me. OOPS...
I did say accident, right? I'm about to nuke the blimp and see what kind of havoc it raises, accidentally, of course.

On the day I was going to buy it, I watched the intro-walkthrough on youtube...  You basically collect the dog and a Mr. Gusty-type robot-companion (your former housekeeper) virtually immediately after you leave the Vault.  That's ridiculous.

Then if you travel in the direction you're sort-of persuaded to go, you theoretically obtain heavy-armor and a heavy-gun without really doing anything.

In Fallout 3, you had to grind and grind, working hard to achieve everything.  And you have to 'discover' the dog's location randomly.  Not early, when you don't have any power.

Other than that, Fallout 4's open map looks spectacular.  I'm still going to buy the game.

That armor lasted me one good fire fight, after that I abandoned it so I could run better.
As much as I love dogs, I really could do without, which is why I told him to stay and went on without him, he tends to trip booby traps all the time, causing you to exhaust your supply of stimpacks.

All in all it's a good game, but what I honestly find tiring is building Sim cities for the lost citizens.
Houses, beds, toilets, wells, generators, it gets tedious after awhile.

The power armor is very different than previous games.  The fusion cores, the fuel for them, are very rare in the beginning of the game.  You simply can't strap it on and do the whole game in it.  It's for taking out when you hit a really hard mission you can't get by.  Like Solar said, it's big, clunky, and slow.  The cool thing is there are a ton of upgrade options for it.  So you get a basic set at the beginning, and you can keep upgrading it throughout the game as you find things.  I've one main suit in my main base sitting next to two half disassembled suits next to it I've stripped for parts.  Tip: Don't leave a fusion core in it.  If you settlement gets attacked, one of the settlers will strap it on and leave it somewhere when they're done.

Ammo is rare too.  You won't find many 5mm shells for that minigun and it chews through them quick.

The dog sucks.  My favorite companions so far: Nick Valentine and Strong

Never said I was going to get it or believe anyone should get it for me.  I just said I desired it.  I'll be happy and appreciative if someone gave it to me or I had the opportunity to work hard at over time to get it but if I can't get it then I can't get it.  Getting this game is not on the highest list of my priorities.

Functioning in society and making a living is.  Doesn't mean I don't have wants or desires.

There is always work out there.  It may not be what you like or think you should have.  But it's out there for you.  I see Help Wanted signs every time I go into town in windows.   You may not like the work/job but it's a paycheck until you find what you like if you can.

I will be going to community support services and try again with that(It's been difficult for me to get the ball rolling on that front).    In other words, I will have to be in supported employment as a developmentally delayed disabled person.  This is what is best for me.

So your going to live on the government (working taxpayer) the rest of your live.  Must be nice have someone paying for your computer and internet, on the taxpayer.   There was a day when a disabled person got a job themselves.  As long as that government check keep coming in, why do something for yourself.
