The tuner is plugged in, projector tested good (actually watching last years race at the moment), plenty of popcorn, snacks, favorite recliner chair is dusted off, sound system working, and I think we're ready to go... from home.

My best friend is going for the 52nd time, we'll share race highlights in a week or so, his perspective from the Grandstand, mine from the ABC telecast.   It is the Greatest Spectacle in Racing, an annual event for us at home... since the late 1960's, when we got our first B/W TV.  I might have missed a few, or fallen asleep now and then, well... it's one of the things we can watch on TV without being overly offended by racy commercials and awful acting.

Looking forward to another great race... all under the Green Flag, I hope.

What? The writer isn't allowed an opinion? I don't agree with it, but his opinion is based on his personal historical experience through his father.
Now had he said "Any Asian" driver, that would make sense.



The Denver Post has fired writer Terry Frei after he tweeted that he was “very uncomfortable with a Japanese driver winning the Indianapolis 500 during Memorial Day weekend.”

After Takuma Sato won the Indy 500 on Sunday, writer Frei expressed his discomfort while clarifying that it was “nothing specifically personal.” A huge backlash ensued, as many people took the comment extremely personally.

Frei deleted the tweet, apologized and said in a lengthy apology that his father, former University of Oregon coach Gerald L. “Jerry” Frei, had fought against the Japanese in World War II, flying 67 missions in all.

In situations like this, should they apologize? A person gets fired over an honest, harmless opinion and they backtrack on it. Should they not because it will not get their job back and it compromises their stance?
