When I met my wife she had this little chihuahua/cocker mix, 16 lbs wet and to this day, I still call her bait. If not for the fact that I've always had big dogs, wolf hybrids, German Shepards and great Pyrenees etc.
This little mutt out lived them all so I got another Shepard, she would have been a snack for some forest critter, most likely an eagle.
Point is, if you're going to invade another's habitat, as in this case, wolf habitat, where man being the idiot he is, opened the door for the coyote to once again prosper. One better be prepared for the consequences.

Sigh

I really don't want to argue this.

Perhaps we can agree that your West Coast habitat is different than East Coast habitat.

And animals that belong in one area do not in another.

Lyme disease may be something new to you. Sadly, to those of us living by the Atlantic, it is not.

We were in an epidemic state with lyme out here, I lost a cat and dog to it, yes, it's bad everywhere. Problem is, I was raised with values, that when you kill something, nothing goes to waste, unless it was sick and you were doing the humane thing.
You seem to forget, you are the one encroaching on their territory, and yes, coyote have traveled this land far longer than man.
I take it you missed the post describing how media wrongly influences the masses over one attack, they love to dramatize everything, it's how they get viewers and I highly doubt you've ever even had an encounter with one, I have, they are sneaky little bastards looking for a quick meal.
But they aren't stupid, and if you have problems with wildlife, it is you that are the problem for baiting them in. I hear them all the time here in the forest, they live here, they serve a purpose in keeping rodents under control, yes, they have a place.
