People who think this is a "Feel-Good" Story fit the very definition of Urban Imbecile.

(To those outside Mass, who would not know, Suffolk Downs is an EXTREMELY dense urban area directly on Logan Airport and the two Tunnels that empty right into downtown Boston.)

Would they also praise a LEO for "rescuing" Baby Rats ?

Coyotes are NOT indigenous to the NorthEast, and, in fact, are not only killing Dogs (sometimes on-leash), but also are wiping out Native Species like Foxes, Chipmunks, etc.

They also kill Cats, and attack Children. Even adults on occasion.

(Just google Coyote Attack - Damn)

This Trooper should be disciplined for his idiocy.

I live where austin's urban sprawl is coming, homes are built in the coyote's backyard. Once the homes start filling up, the signs go up about little foo foo missing. Little foo foo paid a high price for a stupid owner.

I'd dare you to put yourself in the boots of the officer. It is basic humanity that drives us to protect the young of any kind that is helpless and innocent.
Everything has a Right to life, that is a Conservative perspective. If man had killed off all the wolves in the beginning, we wouldn't have dogs. Coyote play an important role in the cycle of life and when one specie becomes a problem, man is always behind it.
I live amongst coyote as well, but we have an understanding, they keep their distance, I won't kill them, but quite honestly, I could never murder an Innocent defenseless pup .
You do know they can be somewhat domesticated. Not easily, I'm sure, but there have been cases, I remember one back in the early 60s, a neighbor farmer had one that lived on the farm, scruffy mean looking bastard, but no one ever bothered his ranch.

A couple of things: These animals are indigenous to the West, so I might cut them some slack there. But if you chose to wipe them out wholesale, I'd prefer that you do.

Coyotes never in history were in the Northeast. The wolves were killed, and we were Coyote-Free for a minimum of two centuries. We did not miss the wolves.

But as America got soft, and Gun Laws were passed, these vermin began creeping in un-opposed. People began mistaking vermin for cute.

Baby Rats are cute, too. Mice are cute.

Coyotes are wiping out our natural population of small mammals, including Foxes, Chipmunks, etc.

They are bad thru and thru.

In my area stray cats and dogs that the Coyotes miss are picked up by Animal Control.

They go in a cage for 48 hours, then the GAS.

Does not matter if they are sweet, even if they have a collar - obvious pets.

Yet this little POS gets a charming news story, and is sent to a SANCTUARY to be released.

SOUND FAMILIAR ?

Solar, I am an animal lover. But I guarantee you if I got my hands on a Coyote Litter they'd go straight into a barrel filled with water.

I believe you don't kill unless for food, fur for clothing. Man used to find coyote a delicacy back in the day, this kept there numbers manageable, but too many city folk have bans on hunting and as a predator without anything to cull their numbers, this is the result.
Wolves used to keep their numbers under control, but you eliminated the wolf, so guess what? If you eliminate the coyote, you'll have another specie out of control.
Remember the Raccoon outbreak a few years back? Perfect example of man's interference with the balance of nature.

I live in the Sierra, we are overrun with rats with antlers, most call them deer, they over breed, spread disease through ticks, but if we reintroduced the wolf, we'd have less mountain lions killings.
Point is, the coyote isn't the issue, it's man thinking he can control everything.

Well, we can disagree here.

I am on 380 acre of land and there are Coyote around our area has been for years.  We had no problems with them as they know there place.  I like sitting out on the deck at night and enjoy there sound.  It just a way of life for us in our area for the world.  But then we don't have miles and miles of sidewalk and no fenced back yards if we have small animals pets.  Now my neighbor has no fenced yard but he does have a Rottweiler.     City people need to learn they are the intruders when building up new areas.

Sad. I live amongst the wildlife, never had a problem that required me to kill any of them, from bears, coyote to Mt lions, and I doubt you have either.
When man creates these problems by encroaching into their habitat, wildlife will always adapt, killing them off because you watch the news that preys on your fears has created a biased view, one that has led you to conclude it is somehow your responsibility to eradicate a specie.

The Boston Area has been densely settled by man for going on four centuries.

I propose that is enough time for Coyotes to understand they should be elsewhere.

That's why you have a coyote problem. Balance is the key to nature, you can't change nature without suffering the consequences.

You're informed people.

You clearly are aware there is a very long list of Invasive Species that dramatically destroy the balance of nature.

Kudzu, Lionfish, Anaconda, Gypsy Moths, Zebra Mussels, and so many more.

Each of these, in different areas of the USA, is displacing native species and causing great harm.

In the Northeast it is Coyotes.

They do not belong. They are harmful. They are not cute.

Look at Australia.

They have endless, repeated purges of Rabbits and Cats. Which are also cute. But they do not belong.

I began this thread stating Coyotes are native to the West. Most likely they are essential to the ecosphere out there.

But not in New England. Every single Coyote in New England is unwelcome.

The really sad part of this is that if Colonials with muskets could eradicate Wolves, it would be exceptionally easy to eradicate Coyotes.

But we have no will anymore.

Everything is cute and precious, except of course, babies in the womb.

The only stupid thing about the owner is that they will not go BANG BANG.

Well, you definitely are on to something there. Growing up we had coyotes, they were a nuisance for most but a problem for those who raised sheep. One advantage we had, everyone had a gun in the truck and took a shot when they were seen. As a result, they knew to keep their distance. Today very few will take that shot, coyotes are losing their natural fear of people, and are seeing people's pets are a easy food source. Living in nature is hard, even for coyotes, living in a neighborhood eating pets is damn near like welfare and hard to get the coyotes off of it. Now, where I referred to the owner as being stupid, when pet owners move into coyote country, protect your pets. Coyotes get hungry, little foo foo has short legs and can't run fast and becomes dinner.

When I met my wife she had this little chihuahua/cocker mix, 16 lbs wet and to this day, I still call her bait. If not for the fact that I've always had big dogs, wolf hybrids, German Shepards and great Pyrenees etc.
This little mutt out lived them all so I got another Shepard, she would have been a snack for some forest critter, most likely an eagle.
Point is, if you're going to invade another's habitat, as in this case, wolf habitat, where man being the idiot he is, opened the door for the coyote to once again prosper. One better be prepared for the consequences.
