This is not a big deal, but another example of how out of touch with reality leftists are. For newbies who may not know, Asheville, NC has been invaded by leftists and hippie types. It is San Francisco east. An island in the otherwise solid red WNC.
The largest mall in Asheville has a Sears store as an anchor and it is closing. The entire area surrounding the mall is commercial with retail and restaurants. A developer desires to take the space for additional retail and movie theater. Residents near the mall are protesting because it might cause more traffic. Damn, what is the purpose of a mall? It is too attract customers. These clowns chose to live in the area because it is convenient. It just boggles the mind.

Malls are closing, and it's all their fault for buying everything online.

I feel I should clarify, the mall is not closing, just the Sears store.

Sears, JCPenney, Macy's, and Belk are what define a mall. Piercing Pagoda, Orange Julius, and Lin Massage only exist because major department stores anchor a mall.
