This not news to many here. However, I have a new outrageous HOA requirement.

We have local site for neighborhoods in our area. Yesterday someone posted a reminder that leaf blowing is not allowed by their HOA. The reason, they harm insects.

Beware, there are liberal loonies everywhere.

Ahh the old environmental reasoning. The appartment complex I live in, has cracks and pot holes all over the parking, yet the managers refuse to replace it because they apparently did a "Environmental impact report" on it, and found it that the runoff from the newly placed asfault would be detrimental.  I understand your sufferings with these hack organizations.

Fortunately, it is not my neighborhood.

When I bought my mom I made sure to not buy where there is an HOA.

I don't like gated communities or condos anyway.

I also wanted to avoid city taxes, so I primarily looked in unincorporated areas

Good choice. I have to live in the city for school and work proximity, but I fight every day to avoid living here forever.
