As folks here know I have called Asheville San Francisco East for years. Now the local pols are really trying to emulate SF.

I should also mention Asheville is a sanctuary city and the crime rate is exploding.

I'm somewhat surprised Ashville is already shifting leftist.  It doesn't seem to have the population density to shift it, leftist collectivist.

All metro areas eventually shift towards big government socialism/collectivism, once their population density reaches a certain level.  We see this effect occurring in every state (both Blue AND Red).  Urban populations NEED a lot more government services to survive.  They also attract the segment of the population that needs public housing and welfare services.  If the government shuts down in a rural area you might not even notice for a very long time.  For example, I have my water and sewage system, make my electrical power and can produce enough food to feed my family, and still have a surplus.  So rural people tend to be independent and don't want or need a lot of government.

This is not the case for the city dwellers.  When you live close to a lot of people, you want them regulated and controlled.  You need the garbage and sewage taken away, and need water piped in.  So urban people tend to ask for more government services and law enforcement.

I didn't think Ashville was big enough yet.

The Asheville metro area is about 500,000. I have been in the area for almost 25 years and Asheville proper has always been liberal. Now, as it grows, it has become a magnet for pure leftists. Outside of Buncombe County is very conservative.

By a 7-0 vote the city council approved reparations for the Black community.

If one reads the article this move is total eyewash. The council voted to increase investment in under served areas. It is so typical for leftists. However, they get PR for the move.
