Title: 200 bicycle seats later....
Post by: quiller on August 28, 2013, 06:54:51 AM
I think every American male has heard (and maybe even used) the bike-seat phrase, a time or two...but when it gets real, leave it to the Japanese. (That 1.2M yen comes out to about U.S. $13,320.)

For all their legendary civility and many kindnesses toward tourists in general (and Americans in particular), one thing hasn't changed much in the 40+ years since I lived there. Japanese men have a really bizarre kink in their psyches. I mean, they sell used girls' underwear in vending machines, for fork's sake. Costumes also play a huge role in their restaurant and bar scene: 35-year-old schoolgirls for example.

It's where Cosplay in Anime originated, and yes, Asians in general are ....umm...simply.... different... in their kinks?
Regardless, I still love the Asian culture.

I was there in 1970 when the comics were fairly raunchy to begin with, just a more traditional Edo-period theme with the usual samurai slash-and-hackery. Evidently those ronin and other gangstas of their day also had a John Shaft reputation among the ojosans there in town.

Dang. Now I've gotta dig out the old files and see if I can produce a few scans to show what I'm talking about. Artwork was often phenomenal, even for G-rated features.

Funny how outlawing porn led to art as a way of sidestepping the law.
Side note, when I was in Korea, I was literally in awe that one guy on a 15x30' billboard could paint an entire scene from a movie for advertising in just a couple of hours, and never look at a picture for reference, only to tear it down a few days later and paint a new one.
The art work was stunning.

I could only find one comic from the era, without some serious spelunking, but the first image is the cover from a weekly men's magazine whose title I have long since forgotten. The art on the cover features a vampire Nixon.

And inside, my all-time favorite single panel. Bert's picture of Glenn Ford now has some competition!

Yeah, I know. No samurai stuff. I'll keep looking.....
