I love Polka, so many different types out there. I do not care what anyone thinks of my music preferences any more :)
I love listening to 1940's WW2 Soviet Army music out loud :)
I must say, I loved the Soviet orchestras of the 60s and 70s, including the all male/military choir that accompanied them.
Classical will always be my favorite in the end.

Did you hear, almost every member of the Alexandrov ensemble singers died in a plane crash few weeks back, we're still mourning, it was a very tough loss.

So that was the Tu-154 crash I heard about? I wondered about that because the news only said Russian Military officials.
Such a loss.

I'm just now discovering American country music and I love it so much, especially what people now call classics :)
Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, John Denver, Glen Campbell...etc etc
I grew up on Kozak folk music (curved swords, horses & hard booze), similar I think sentiment as some of your classic country music I think.

The folks you mentioned are true country. Country music today has morphed into rock.

Yes, I noticed that, I'm not a fan of "new country"..

We can't have every performer doing Patsy Cline or other Grand Ole Opry classic performers FOREVER. If you're a purist the Alan Lomax recordings of true roots music are now available, or any number of "side genres," but yes, the present country scene DOES have its rock-and-roller influences...and always have. Jerry Lee Lewis, anyone?

Willie Nelson wrote "Crazy." Who hasn't heard of him? You don't hear him doing Waylon Sr. ripoffs, do you?

TRUE country is HEARTFELT country. The instruments and arrangements and audio tricks mean nothing without it. American music, plain and clear --- the songs of who we are.

Elvis and Jerry Lee were considered "crossovers" at the time. Jerry Lee really had some good country recordings.

They all did, including Hank Williams Sr., whose steel guitar in "So Lonesome I Could Cry" reminds me so strongly of this:

I hear black juke joints in there. And hillbilly shitkickers missing teeth. And also in there are performers at the top of their game. What's changed? What's truly changed?

Good music crosses genres. Country accepted its outlaws onto that sacred Opryland stage. Its old road dogs went to porches or under the sod and the folk music of America blended genres, as we always have. Country is folk, folk is country. It's our music. Ours.

I'm trying to open my mind to enjoying newer country artists but there are not many that I like so far, listening to Josh Turner's "Your Man" song, love the deep voice but most of his songs lack a good story :)

Brooks and Dunn --- "Hillbilly Deluxe."
Gretchen Wilson --- "Redneck Woman"

Good to know! I rather like rednecks, I find them honest and humble, just like Siberians.
