Wow!!  Last night about 2300hrs.  All hell broke loose rain, wind, thunder and lightning. We got about 1.5" of rain that a lot for our area. Thunder roll for about 2.5 hrs. and the say there was over 1500 lightning strikes, in and around our area.  Thank God for the rain that started first we had no fires.  Just burn spots all around.

Talk about G/Cooling and a light show.  Now my cat Boo is not a lap cat, but with this thunder she move from my computer table to my lap for over 1 hr.  Each time there was a long roll load thunder she would look up at me like to say what the hell are you doing.
I saw that on satellite.

Things are setting up for a possible repeat, lessening everyday.
We're finally in Summer, 92 for a high today and 98 over the weekend.
I find it funny that they call it a excessive heat warning. It's freakin Summer, for crying out-loud!

Well it's that time a year.  It will be 105º again today and Wed.  Washington state has 5 fires going and Oregon has 4 going.  Smoke is all over.  My understanding all the fires were started by lightning strikes over the last week or so.  Our power was knocked out twice in two weeks for about 30 to 45 seconds just long enough to have to reset some clocks.  Like me some of my clocks are so old they don't have battery backup.

Got the yard cut and trimmed on Sunday so I will not have to outside for very long at a time in this smoke until this coming Sunday when I will cut the grass again.  All this smoke is holding the heat in at night also so the A/C runs off and on until about 2300 hrs. then comes back on about 0700.

The bright side is, we just went through the 90's with the sub tropical air mass you're getting now, which is turning cool, lower 80s to 70s this week which is probably headed your way.
I am so glad we don't have the smoke this year that you are suffering under. We had so much rain late in the season that there still isn't a fire danger.

  We had lightning and thunder rolling for about 4 hrs. last night.
lighting up the sky all around us.  We are down to 3 fires now in the state.  We had a lot of rain for us when the storm came through.  So there were no new fires.  I see you have one above you just in side your state border.

Good for you guys!
The rain was just a few miles north of us, looks like it rained all day, so the fire is probably already out.

I've never knew it got as hot on the west coast as here in central Texas. Do y'all cool off at night and start the day fresh? During August we're lucky if it gets down to 78 at night, we can hit 80 by 8am and be soaked in sweat by 9. Don't help much that we have not had any real rain since before July 4th, every thing is that ugly August brown. Can't wait for my favorite day of the year, the one where you go outside and realize you need to go back in and get a coat.

My brother just moved to Az, tried to get me to buy desert land with him. I love the desert SW, but I love the change of seasons too.
Yeah, we usually hit the 3 digit mark in the summer months, when they hit 110 deg+ and scream global warming.
But as Walks will attest, it's a dry ass heat, so it really isn't all that bad out here, but the nights do cool off usually down in the 40s or 50s, while the valley gets down in the 60s to 70s.
When I was younger I loved your weather, now I physically can't handle it, my heart would give up.

I'm running between 50 and 70 º at night.  But remember I am less then 3/4 mil. from the Columbia river up 500ft..  So we start cooling off when the sun goes down over the hill, around 8 PM.  For us to have green grass 9 months out of the year I water my yard 3 full hrs. a day.  Like Solar we enjoy the change of seasons also.  In the A.M. my back deck can get up to 130+º from 7: to 9: A.M. a the sun also bounces off the river in two places along with the sun.  When you go out the back door it's like walking in to a wall of heat.
