Summer finally comes to a halt. This is my area, and it looks like we're in for a bit of snow, not at my location, but over the crest, which means skiing kicks off, but it's the wind that bugs me because it doesn't allow the forest to shed slowly, instead, we get limbs snapping off over 100' up and turning into spears. :scared:

Severe Weather Alerts - Georgetown, CA

Special Weather Statement in effect until Thursday, 4:30 AM PST. Source: U.S. National Weather Service

...Major change to Winter Weather forecast for the Holiday
Weekend...

A major change in the weather pattern is coming to NorCal this
week impacting holiday travel. A series of winter like storms
will plow through NorCal bringing rain and mountain snow to the
region. The first system is set to arrive late Tuesday night
pushing through the north state Wednesday and Wednesday night.
Another system will move though late Thursday and Thursday night
with one last system pushing through on Friday.

Snowfall over the Sierra and debris flow over the recent Norcal
Fires are a major concern with these weather systems and hazard
watches have been issued for these impacts.

This change in the weather pattern will bring other impacts as
well. The accumulation of dirt and oils on the roadways will
produce very slick conditions especially early on in this wet
period Tuesday night and Wednesday. The Wednesday evening commute
and Thanksgiving travel period will likely see increased traffic
accidents due to the slick roadways and motorists should use extra
caution. As rainfall accumulates over the holiday weekend,
ponding water will be possible where storm drains have been
clogged by leaves and other debris. In addition to the rainfall,
the weather system passing through norcal late Thursday will bring
gusty south winds. The northern Sacramento valley could see wind
gusts up to 40 or 45 mph with gusts to over 60 mph over the higher
Sierra. Downed tree limbs, blowing objects, and difficult driving
will be a concern during this late Thursday through Friday time
period. Use extra care while traveling this holiday weekend as
many weather related hazards will be present that have not been a
concern for the last several months.

Conditions will begin to improve on Sunday with a return to drier
weather expected early next week.

And we only had 1/4" ice on all our trees Monday.  But they say we have some rain coming Thursday and Friday.  It's 28º right now with light fog.  They say it will get up to 40º today  good luck with that.  It call for 40º yesterday also but did not get above 34º as the fog did not lift until about 3:30 P.M.

I'll feel "yor pane"
We've been in the upper 60s since the last rain, cold ass nights, but it all changes tomorrow, we'll be in Winter the rest of the year.
That means wood stove 24/7, 4 hours of good sunlight since I have mountains to the East and West South/West,, add to that 100'+ trees all around, means it never really warms up until late March.

Today I took the good wife out for a ride.  We took a ride up to the high ridge (2000').
It is about 26 miles.  At about 1500' everything turned white, but not for snow.
The fog has been freezing for the last 4 days up there.

I live in an area called Horse Heaven Hills in South Benton County.
I pulled the photo off the net.   This will give you some idea of what I see every day in the Summer

This is looking at Horse Heaven from the back of my place.

This is looking over into Oregon from my place.

This winery is about 5 miles away, in all there are 58 winerys within 1.5 hrs drive of me.

Hey Walks, did you take the first pic in this post? That's really nice. It's the one thing I kind of miss living in the forest, sunrise and sunsets, the trees block everything.
Sure, I could cut them down, but then we would't be living in the forest.

I was searching for the link to Doppler we used to post here, because my pooter crashed and I had to buy a new one and I'm still trying to find all my old goto sites, and one of my favorite for the winter was that Doppler site, but when I go to it, it looks totally different, so I'm not certain I have the right one.
Can you post the link?

Solar, I know no news is good news. It seems to me the rain helped more than it hurt in the fire areas. Now for the long time recovery. Let's hope some sanity comes out of this in Sacramento.

Sooo true, but media in Sac needs a catastrophe to get people to watch, so they spin the rain as bad news in that it hampers the recovery efforts. Not true
I've fought fires here in the Sierra before and after a rain. During the fire is easier, because after a rain you have a false sense of security that it won't flare up, but the real threat isn't mud and ash, it's the stumps and roots that are still burning under ground. Everywhere you look is smoldering ground, so you can't see the actual hotspots, I stepped on what looked like solid ground, but it was just ash and the stump was still hot, the core had burned out and I stepped right down on the center, sunk up to my nuts in a core of hot coals, yeah, it burned, but only 2nd degree burns.

Point is, regardless, until the fire is out, these fire fighters would still be in their mopping up and putting out every coal they can find.
So in truth, the rain was a pure blessing regardless of how the media spins it, people still have to enter the area and finish the job which will last well into December.
The people that find bodies won't be the recovery teams, it will be some poor kid that's never seen a dead body that will be relaying the information back to the recovery teams to do the extractions.
The media makes it sound like teams of people will have the sole responsibility of searching, that is not the case.

I agree. At this point it will be a one by one finding. I understand around 250 are still unaccounted for so the death toll will continue to rise.

Sadly, some may never be found, not in our lifetime, anyway.
One thing that is a natural thing to do, is find a low are, better yet a hole to avoid the flames, but once all the air is depleted, you basically found your grave...
Then comes the scavengers, assuming these low areas didn't fill with ash and bury the bodies under a couple of feet of debris.

The photo I did not take be it about 12 miles East of us.  I see this area once a week when I go in shopping.

I have not found the Doppler site yet.  I will keep looking

First snow of the year, though it didn't amount to much, but more is expected.
Wet and rainy, around 5 inches so far this week, and that''s only the beginning, but hey, according to the left, regardless of how much rain we get, they'll claim we're still in a drought caused by global warming induced by man.

Well in a way the drought is caused by man.  As the damned liberal environmentalist will not let dams be built to control and store water and use as needed.  But then you know that.

We are still receiving some light snow this morning. Going on 48 hours and we have about 13". Fortunately, we kept our power, internet and cable. Many others in the area without power. It will probably be tomorrow at the earliest before DOT gets to our street as they are having work continuously on primary roads due to ongoing snow. Highs are going to be above freezing all week so melting should be pretty good.
