Yeah, we got hit hard with the same winds they got later. Since I live tucked down in the forest, I seldom see 12 Mph winds, yesterday they hit the house 30 Mph plus, so I can only imagine they were at least 70Mph above ground.
Their winds should die down tonight. This is a problem for that area, they won't cut down the brush in the hills, they claim it destroys the environment.
So out of control fires don't count as destroying the environment?

You would think after this many years of getting burned out they would learn.   I guess they need a new home every 5 or 10 years.

In one week we have gone from night time low's of 50º down to around 25º night time.  Don't look for snow until the week before Christmas I could be wrong I was last year.

Two stage snow thrower has been check out to go out the door when needed/if.  The two portable generators are check out and set to go if needed.  The most the power has been out in the winter was for 1hr. and that was a planed outage two week ahead.  From the looks of the land around it will be a cold winter like last year.  Around about the same amount of snow.

Same here, went from rain and 40 degrees, to serious winds and cold freezing nights in the mid 20s.
Looks like the next week or so will be like this, then colder most likely after that.

We were supposed to get a dusting to a couple of inches of snow yesterday. Actual so far is 10" and it is till snowing a little. Will be in the house for a couple of days as our neighborhood is third priority for the DOT to scrape the roads. All public roads in NC are "state" roads.

Wow! 10" is this your first snow of the year?  We have had the winds blowing from the N/NE but no snow.  Daytime high's 35º and night time down to 24º.  I look for our first snow in about 2 or 3 weeks.  Daytime has been a lot of fog, is we have ice on the trees.  If the sun is out the ice is gone around 2PM.  What I like about my area is it can be very cold out and you can get a sun tan in the winter.

I saw this on the satellite, the same system causing the Santa Ana Fires down South, also brought snow to Houston.
My daughter in law just sent pics yesterday. How freakin unusual, and for me out in Ca, we're experiencing sunny warm days, when we should be getting hit with storms and cold rain.

I guess, if anything, enjoy it?
I mean, what else can you do, it's not often God drops that much in the area, is it?

This is our first measurable snowfall of the season. We usually get two or three a year. However, 10" is out of the ordinary. It was the perfect storm with plenty of gulf moisture from the southwest meeting the cold air from the north.

True, it's really not normal from year to year.
But in truth, this is normal on the "Big Cycle Of Events".
Just like Ca and its regular drought/flood cycle, we cycle roughly every 10 to 18 years drought to flood.
North Carolina cycles much in the same way, with heavy snows on roughly a twenty year cycle.

Snowstorm Amount

3 @ 12"

2/11/1973   12.5

12/24/1989 15.3

And today with more than 10", but if you ask a lib, it's proof of AGW.

I kid you not, I've already seen these morons posting that these snows are proof that man is destroying the climate, in spite of the data proving it's actually normal weather.
I, myself, am expecting record snowfall this year out West, as it's been 20 years plus since our last record snow event, which is always followed by record wet, and next year will more than likely bring freezing record temps, which at the time they claimed was a 100 year event, but records showed otherwise.

I try not to use the word "normal" when discussing weather. "Average" is a much better word to use in my view. With peaks of the Appalachians being west of us we do not receive a great deal of precipitation from the NW as the mountains wring out much of the moisture as it moves eastward. Our moisture has to come from the south and moves in east of the mountains.

How cold is that for your area of California.  Send some of that cold down to lower California and the fire.

Exactly! There is no such thing as normal, only remotely consistent as to what one can expect.

Oh my, I see G/W for next Sunday and Monday.  50º daytime, I may have to dig out my cut offs.

We may even get some rain for 3 hrs. on Friday.   Just in time for my December shower.  Now if I can just remember what I did with that bar of soap last month.
