Lessee now, the other day i was listening to some report on earthquakes by Fox and they were talking about "the big one to come" maybe as much as a 9.2 quake and not along the San andreas fault line but along some mountain range(?) called something like Cascades or something similar.  Anyway, there have been some studies on this one and it is said to be able to take out several towns and several thousand people if it decides to hit.  What are your thoughts on this one?  This event would run thru the upper part of your locale, possibly taking out many towns.  Wouldn't it be nice if we could somehow know way ahead of the actual event and send all the illegals up there?
If that were to happen, it would probably either be triggered by, or trigger Mt Lassen volcaon.
If my 8th grade geography served me correctly, it was the Cascade range that forced Carson range into being, when the Sierra formed, creating a vast canyon between the two ranges and leaving Tahoe in it's wake.

I could be wrong on the time frame, but there is no doubt Lassen would create Hell on several states.
We'd survive, but it would take decades to recover and the entire landscape would change forever, Tahoe could even disappear.

The old farmers around say if the West coast drops 35 ft.  We could have waterfront property living on the snake river as we do.

Long night last night.  We had a big grass fire just SW of us it was only 20miles away.   Between the volunteer fireman and the farmers they got it under control and put out in about 4hrs.  Not a good thing as the wind was blowing it 15mph our way.   When this happens farm equipment comes out of the woodwork from all over.

Wow, that could have turned out completely different!!!  You are one fortunate guy!

It is amazing how quickly fire can travel across grasslands.

Guess you have a lot of lingering smoke today.  Drag out your gas mask....

We are luck that they can put 5 to 10 road grader side by side and cut a clearing when needed.  Most farms are so big they have one or two road grader, so it not a problem bring them in.  It's just farmers helping farmers.

El Niño Growing Stronger, Could Impact Weather For Months.

snip~
When scientists declared in March 2015 that El Niño conditions had developed in the Pacific Ocean, the consensus was that the event was too weak and too late to have much effect on North America. But in the past several months, warm water has been sloshing from the western Pacific toward the Americas and El Niño has strengthened. Surface waters have grown significantly warmer in the central and eastern Pacific, and conditions have become somewhat cooler and drier in the west. By the end of July 2015, scientists at NASA and other agencies started to see some similarities between current conditions and the development of the potent El Niño event of 1997–98.

We have not seen a signal like this in the tropical Pacific since 1997," said Bill Patzert, a climatologist at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. "It's no sure bet that we will have a strong El Niño, but the signal is getting stronger. What happens in August through October should make or break this event."

I can see sheat lightning all over in Oregon, it's been going on now for about 30 min.   What a show.  Hope this does not add to the fires in Oregon.

I swear, looking at the West coast satellite photo, looks exactly like the winter pattern we normally see in Nov.
Yes Dorothy, it looks like it's gonna be one Hell of a wet and snowy winter.
Early, I might add, like around the end of Sept. we should start seeing rain out here.

I hope so for y'all. You need it. We are down about 5 inches in WNC this year and the remnants of a tropical storm would be beneficial.

The ElNino effect is in full blown mode, like it was in 1980, where as far north as Oregon had tropical fish.
The waters came out of the Equator, and they are again, they're saying it's so strong, that they expect to catch Marlin off the coast of Alaska this winter.

If predictions are correct, we could see some serious flooding in the parched valley, and mud slides in the South.

Then Oregon and Washington will have mud slides also.

I remember how much rain we had in '98.  The water down here is usually a blue-grey.  That year it was emerald green.

Looks like our 100º weather is done for the year.  We will be in the high 80's to 90's + for this month.  Then in Oct. start dropping down into the 70's and low 60's at the end of Oct.   Will look it bring out our winter thing the first of Nov. and put away the summer thing.

We've been in the 70s all week and will be for the foreseeable future.
Looks like we're quickly approaching fall here in the Sierra, Summer is over for us.
