I just saw a piece where Oregon was introducing "Oregon Drive" where people are taxed by the mile. They put a GPS in your car and charge $.015 cents per mile. It is voluntary right now and you are supposed to receive a refund for any paid gas taxes. The administrative costs are an admitted 40% of every dollar taken in. That means it probably is at least 65%-70%.  They actually have people signing up for this program. This program is a liberal's dream. It is expensive, inefficient and gives the government knowledge of everywhere someone has gone. What a trifecta.
Those idiots are nuts. I heard on Oregon radio that their latest is a 20+ cent gas tax hike.
They tried to justify it by claiming it will keep property tax low.

These people are just as loony as Ca, and more so in many instances.

  Your going to see people driving into Washington just for gas if they do.   Once they get the $.015 cents per mile per GPS then they will keep the gas tax also.  Right now it just to get people to change over on there own.  When they will not do that, then they will make them pay both.     Trust me government does not give the working class anything back they only take.   Next they will be charging farmer GPS millage tax.

You just described our entire drive. I love Wyoming, almost considered it as well.
Yeah, we're sticking to the panhandle area, but there isn't a lot to choose from, but it is a beautiful area.
A windstorm rolled through the night before last, gusts over 100, trees down everywhere, but apparently that's normal for the area. :scared:

At least we know the wind turbine will work.

Wind turbines!!!?  I thought you were a solar guy!!!

Nope, I'm an expert in all alternative energy production.
I'd happily use wind here in the Sierra, but it's just not windy enough.

This is why I was looking for a creek, so I could go hydro generation.

That would be nice to be able to always have electricity without relying upon utilities!

We had solar panels on our motorhome but they could only provide minimal power supplement...... kept the batteries all charged and frig running when no utilities.

We are an "energy" family also.  Our son is in carbon, our daughter is in wind turbine, and my husband is retired carbon.

Carbon....I like that.
But your daughter needs to be looking for a new field. The Wind turbine industry is solely dependent upon subsidy, and that all ends in late 2017.

No.  She works for a German Company and lives in Scotland.  Her job takes her all over the world.  She travels almost constantly.  I think her next trip is to Montreal and Oregon.  No kidding!!!

There are still many "green hearted" places in the world....

I hope she gets to fly business class. I traveled just the USA for three years and it is no fun even if flying up front.

Oh, I know!!!  You are right.

But she grew up spending a lot of time in airplanes on long international flights.  This is all old hat to her!  She is more than a seasoned traveler.   It is in her blood.  But she just hates being away from home so much.  Fortunately she does not have children...... just two cats and a husband.

Look like two more days above 100ยบ, then we drop down into the high 90's.

They say corn must be knee high by the 4th of July for a good crop.  In my area it 6 feet tall right now.  Talk on the 10 meter radios start up around 4:30 A.M. in the fields and don't end until around 10:00 P.M.  Even with AC units in all the tractors around it makes for a long hot day.

We've had one of the craziest years that I can remember.  I've seen our peach crop fizzle after the first picking.  There are numerous corn fields near my home that have been abandoned due to non sufficient growth (stunted) and that by our lack of rain.  Flowers and shrubs around my neighborhood that normally bloom before now have got a late start and then only minimally blooming very small flowers.  When you sit at home a lot and see things on a routine basis, you can tell when there is as dramatic a change as I am seeing this year.  Sad too!  Our temps this week are close to 100 deg and the heat index is 100+ with high humidity.  Yep, it's summertime here.

I'm on the coast, and this morning was the first time the sun was out in I can't remember when.  We've had heavy overcast for weeks.

Yep, we had a half inch of rain yesterday and raining as I post.
Historically speaking, this is turning out to be an early winter, Madrone is shedding leaves a month early, this weather pattern is a month early as well, considering we don't get the tropical moisture till august.
Including the fact that every conifer is coning in abundance, meaning nature expects heavy rain, anyway that's how droughts always end, with the trees planting in abundance.

Yeah, the drought is over and another cycle begins.
