So we got 4" of snow yesterday in all.  The new snow thrower worked great!  Calling for more snow over the next two days also.  I learned fast that you don't turn the discharge tub into the wind if your down wind.

Glad it's you that's getting it, we're at 2" of rain, and looking at another 5" before it's over, if that translated into snow, we'd have more than 8' on the ground.
Then I'd call you up to bring your snow thrower over.

Oh, and the libs are claiming we're in a drought.

We've had about 14" of snow since this began. Roads are still treacherous, the schools are running out of authorized "snow days" and are threatening longer school years in which to misinform our youth, and the goons at City Hall are threatening people if they can't clear their sidewalks.

Working with a professional-grade ice-chopper, it took six full hours over three days to clear an inch of ice from about 25 feet of walk, after a snow-rain-snow combination.

I'm sitting at home with a space heater about 3 feet behind me, insulated long johns on and two layers of shirts, and it is zero degrees outside with a -10 wind chill cutting through storm windows and interior windows.

I want just one, count it, one chance to catch Al Gore alone in an elevator somewhere.

Now that downright sucks. Snow or rain is fine, but there is nothing worse than rain on snow, followed by a freeze.
I've had that here a few times in the last 30 years, so bad once, I couldn't leave the house for 12 days because the road up the mountain was ice and there wasn't anything that could traverse it.

Stay warm and hope the power stays on.

So far we've had 3" of rain since Thursday, nice steady rain, a rain that will disappoint a lot of libs and TV weather people that we're counting on something to hype.
TV weather would love love to hype and sensationalize, playing right into Gov Moonbeam hands, and his little Marxists would have a club with which to beat us into accepting the South stealing more water from us in the North.

Ever tried ice-chains on your vehicle tires? I've seen some with long studs that bite into ice pretty well, if the hill you're trying to climb is not terribly steep. (Can't give any supply sources since I haven't seen them in a few years, but it's a thought.)

Right now it's up to a sizzling 8 degrees, "feeling like -2," according to the local weather site. Break out the beachwear and start the conga-line, it's Winterfest!!!!

From the looks of it you and Elife have one more big chill coming your way yet.

Yeah, I have a set, but haven't had to use them since I got the tractor and dozer.
One thing I really hate doing is putting on chains. Up here in the mountains, you have them on for a couple of miles, then take them off for 3, only to put them back on for another 2 or 3, then repeat the process on the return trip.

A short drive into town can take an entire day, which is one of the reasons we have stocked years worth of food.

Well cleaned 3" more off the sidewalks.  Today I took the snow thrower up on the back deck, as I had wind drifts of snow over 1' high in most areas.  There calling for even more snow today and Sunday.  Monday we will see 36º so not much time for playing in the snow.   :woot:  Can that 4 wheel quad go in the snow.

There's more snow falling, since before noon, and by 16:00 EST it was nearly white-out conditions going through north Ohio, out of Toledo. Ohio plows had been 150% on the job but when we hit the Michigan line it turned to terrifying conditions until we got to a state highway. Then it returned to near-whiteout conditions but the wind was keeping roads themselves clear.

The web page for our local excuse for a newspaper said that our own county road commission has already blown through half its snow plowing/salting budget, and Detroit web sites say the Detroit salt mine people are outright bustin'-it in 12-hour shifts (with extra help) trying to keep up with municipal demands.

We've had worse. In 1978 the drifts were 15 feet high and I literally, honest to God, drove my VW Beetle right over a car buried just off the road while making a turn.

Good times in the Water-Winter Wonderland....

Since this started on Thursday, we've had 10" of rain, 5" just last night.
So much for the drought.
