Yep Winter is on us.  Hit 17 last night.   I keep the water tricking when it gets below 30º day time and below 20º night time.  But then I am on well water and on the grid, so it not a big deal.   I use more water, when watering the yard in one day in the Summer then I use all Winter long.

Didn't get above 24 yesterday, it's 12 outside as I type, probably hit 11 before we start our heatwave of 25 for the day.
Send some of that AGW down here, I hate getting up and running the water for 15 minutes while all the ice chunks blow through.

You didn't own a garden hose in the Summer?
My dad told me he and all the neighbor kids would go to the fire house where the hose had been laying in the sun all day and the men would turn it on while their moms made sure they washed first, then they were allowed to play.

I was lucky, I was 5 when we got hot running water, dad bought a brand new home for $12,000 in 59, remember it like yesterday.
Ya know what really sucks, the Dims screwed the housing mkt up so badly, I can only get $65,000 for it after all these years.
It should have appreciated to $250,000 but with only cash buyers and lenders tightening up on loans, there just isn't a mkt, and it has a hot shower.

fire house     Not on a farm.

Just a pump handle, and a good size creek with a good size swimming hole.
I remember the first hot water tank in back of the old wood stove.
Mom and the girls got the hot water.  We got what was left, after the first round of chores were done.

I thought that winter was on us the last time I posted on this thread but it didn't last long enough.  The temps here over the weekend were in the 70-73 range but it rained some saturday morning.  Back in the 60's today with rain most of the day and tomorrow.  If this trend keeps up[, we'll have about a month and a half to deal with cold weather.  There's been snow just above us as close as Hendersonville, NC but we've missed it all winter so far.  Sounds like some of you are really having it rough.  Seeing the grass in the yard turn greener.  We usually go thru this kind of period, just enough to start all of the grass, trees and bushes to start budding, then we'll have that "easter snap" and everything will get killed by frost in late March-early April.

The apple farmers are concerned with the warm weather in Henderson Co., NC.

Same here in Ca, they are picking oranges as fast as they can to avoid the freeze.
Were warming up finally, hit 16, with a nasty windchill of something like 20 below.

Are they calling for snow in your area?
I was looking at the satellite pic and it looks like it's diving down quickly out of the North, right over you, if it reaches my area, it will definitely be snow and a lot of it.

There calling for a 10% chance of snow tonight and Tue.   But most of the time we need about 30% + before we get it.   Been checking that big cold front coming down for the last 24hrs.   Looks like it will go around us moving more East around Spokane Wa.  on it's way back East.   We are @ 1200' A/S/L per my GPS.  The river is at 700' most of the time we see snow at about 2000' or above around 10% chance is all.  But the day is young yet.
