Yep, we're in the zone where I live that is calling for numerous events of snow and ice.  The almanac says that the most of it will be just north of us but i've learned to expect more of the bad stuff because we live just about on the border between the two states and at the foot of some pretty big mountains.  Fronts coming in can be readily recognized-not much time to prepare.   According to the almanac, it should be fairing by end of March.
Yeah, our real Winter doesn't begin till late Jan and relaxes in March...a bit.
I'm expecting heavy snow soon and some serious cold snaps.

Not my area, we live around 3000' and in the shadow of a mountain at 4800', we range between 10,000' and Mt. Whitney at 14,494 to the South.
Donner Pass about 25 miles to the N/E is 7,057 feet and that isn't even the peak and just to hit Tahoe about 20 miles away is 10,000' for us.
Luckily we don't have to go up to go to the city for supplies, it's all downhill from here, except out the driveway, we have to crest one mountain, then it's not so bad.

Where we live is all mountains, there are no valleys, so you are either cresting, or descending, if you aren't 4 wheeling, you absolutely need chains, or you won't be moving and even chains aren't a guarantee you'll get there.

I have been to Tahoe 3 times.   Also been over Donner Pass 6 times, last time over Donner was 4 years ago going home.   I remember on road out of Tahoe that was about one line in some area way up high.  You could look down on both sides, one hell of a drop on each side.   My wife did not say a word as there was no way of truning around.     But when we got on a reg-two line road she had a lot to say.

Sounds like you went one of two ways, either HWY 50 West out of Tahoe, or the Forest hill road, which runs the canyon and has a mile nearly vertical drop straight down. (Freakin Scary)
The first time I went that way, I was driving a USFS fire truck, damn near shit my pants when I looked over the edge.
Your wife had every right to freak... :scared: :scared: :scared:

I should take Toy that way next time I come back the long way.

That sounds like the one lol   There were trees all around and then they  were gone.   Just open space on both side with no bottom that I could see as I was driving.  LOL  I think some of it was gravel road in places if I remember right.

All those high peaks would scare the be-Jesus outta' me.  I couldn't handle all that.
You all are proof that living out there can be done but I'm not that much of a pioneer.

The drive to my place has three ways in, all traverse serious canyons, which I see as beautiful, but my mom only came here twice in the last 25 years, hated the cliffs.

And I love it, I get tired of filling the dogs water everyday. It freezes solid and is about six inches thick.
