Moderators have the unfortunate position of pissing some people off, so keeping them as an unknown entity, is for their benefit.
If you knew who they were, you might post to them differently, I know people treat me different than they normally would.

Solar, so since you seem to know Humphrey, why doesnt Humphrey talk more often?

I dont think I would treat Humphrey any different than the others in here. You are all fair game, imo.  :P

I made Humphrey a mod because he was an unknown at the time, so no one could recognize his writing style.
He really isn't supposed to post an opinion as a mod, but you have responded to him as a poster on quite a few occasions. ;)

Well.. I noticed he had posted 22 times. I also have watched to see if he would come around. So far, Humphrey is our in house phantom, I think.

Oh wait... You made him an admin?  :)) Wonder if it is Toy behind Humphrey then?  :))

Humphrey would point out that he is a Global Moderator, not an Administrator. There is a considerable difference.

Administrators sit at the right hand of God.

Global Moderators actually do things, like moderate. Globally.

Humphrey's task is not unlike that of Santa Claus, except Humphrey must cover the globe every night.

And for those who have asked, Humphrey's cigarette is an e-cig.

You know what I think? The above quote tells me Solar is our god of CPF! He admitted that he 'made' Hump the Mod!

But now I will begin paying closer attention to people like you, Walks, to see who is hiding behind the mask of Hump!  ;)

Only three people know who it is, I left it up to he/she if they ever wanted to divulge their identity.

Humphrey first found fame as a World War I flying ace -- kinda like Snoopy -- and he flew (what else?) a Sopwith Camel...

Please enjoy the video. It is BY FAR the best I've ever seen of two vintage warbirds sharing the same patch of sky.

Sopwith Camel and Spitfire flying in formation (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6PnKUEFX8g#)

He said in the video... The Sopwith is challenging to land even with a slight degree of crosswind. I agree completely! The pilot did a great job of landing it smoothly. It is more difficult to land that type of plane than it is to land many others.

I ruled you out early on.

I was shocked earlier... The Elusive Humphrey actually moved a thread of mine. He now has 25 posts total since the end of last September. There is hope of him beconing a full member in here, eh?

Finding people capable of realizing where the poster leaves off and the moderator begins --- aye, there's the rub. Keeping mods anonymous DOES work --- to THEIR benefit. I say it does not, for the average member.

LNF's multi-person Polimod position is both a joke and an invitation to excesses, allowing a rogue to hide in plain sight while remaining invisible. I defy any long-time member to disagree that if an unannounced Polimod level moderator doesn't like something, it VANISHES. The position has thereby been abused.

I've been told that staying on-topic dictates the majority of such deletions, but (as with any "real life" conversation) that's how people are. Conversations wander. And as with almost every message fora, conversations often become arguments and page hits go up, boosting revenue...but then a careful edit-job removes WHY that thread got so many page-hits, without also sharing the content. Something's wrong with all that, on several levels.

I refer of course first to Harleywoman, and will entertain ballot suggestions (and categories!) on the remainder.

Here? I'd rather deal with an identified known quantity.

Personally, I believe a moderator shouldnt have to be anonymous. Also, I believe rules should be pinned as a sticky in the forum. Rule 1) do unto others as you would want them to do unto you... that means in simple English dont do anything or say anything to anyone in the forum that you find mean-spirited, hostile, antagonistic~ such as cursing someone out, etc... The mod is able to use the rules to then explain why the post is vanished, but he or she should edit the post instead of totally delete it if possible.

If rules are clearly posted, moderators should be able to do their work unmasked. Quiller, what you have quoted proves anonymous moderators are capable of being and playing naughty. I have witnessed naughty masked mods in action. They were more guilty of wrong than the poster.

Perhaps one day, this forum may realize a need for change although Humphrey is doing a good job.

@ Humphrey keep up the good work.

@ Walks~ Yeah, ST sure does know Hump.  Solar cant keep that from ST. :P
