Live in moderately hilly rural area. Windows 8.1 w/WiFi. I have to go into the 'troubleshooting' packs %*%@#% times a day and reset the adapter for the computer to work properly.

Any suggestions? And, "NO",.... 'Tannerite' is out of the question...at least for now.

What is your internet connection?

It may be time for a new router.  My router is on it last leg and it 15 years old I have to reset it about once a month.  So I need to be looking for a new one.

Yeah, I think Walks got it right. If your router is older than 5 years, toss it and get the latest, but do your research first.
It sounds like Windows no longer supports your hardware/software, or is trying to set it's configuration to match today's needs, but your router is so out of date, it can't handle the change and you wind up resetting it..
