Aussie wins Micronesian island from a raffle ticket

A Wollongong man has won his very own Pacific island resort after lashing out $65 on a raffle ticket.

Forget winning a meat tray or bottle of wine in your local pub raffle, a man identified only as Joshua from Wollongong has won the raffle of a lifetime, taking out a 16-room resort on Kosrae in Micronesia.

The Kosrae Nautilus Resort was raffled off by the Australian owners, Doug and Sally Beitz, who decided to hand over their paradise property after setting it up two decades ago.

Prior to the winning ticket getting drawn, Mr Beitz said he was hoping the winner would be "someone who likes warm weather, likes meeting new people from around the world, is adventurous."

Joshua purchased just three tickets out of the 75,485 that were sold to people in about 150 countries.

The winning ticket, 44,980, was drawn on Tuesday and the results were posted on Facebook.

At first, Mr Beitz was unsuccessful at reaching Joshua to inform him of the life-changing good news.

"His name is Joshua and he's from Australia," Mr Beitz revealed after the winner was finally contacted.

According to the company's website, the business is debt free, profitable and already fully staffed and Joshua gets to take ownership of it all.
