In my opinion, the current billion-plus jackpot is too opulent.  Millions are okay, but a billion seems like it crosses-over into excessive realms of cupidity and covetousness.  Something's not right about how all this is going to play out.  -Hopefully just legal-squabbles.

I never play lotteries because I'd rather bet on horses or play poker.  My friend called lotteries 'the poor man's tax'.

I had this crazy idea of a reverse-lottery: everybody gets 2000 bucks by default. The one who "wins" the lottery however, will owe the government 10s of millions.

Technically speaking you have a very thin possibility to lose (or win, for that matter, if you catch my drift).

Yep, I do catch it.

Sounds akin to the olde pagan rituals for a good harvest...  which were lottery-driven.

Crazy idea is right!!

You cannot get blood from a turnip.  No way of the government collecting and it turns into another government give away program!

Aye, or witch trials, where they throw you in the water, if you drown, you weren't a witch, if you swim, you were.

She probably dragged him to the nearest place to get married...and then PRAYED for it.

Even though people call the lottery a tax on the stupid, I think the pleasure a person receives from IMAGINING what they would do with all that money, that there's a possibility - I think that's worth a buck or two.

If you're saying that in America, the price of hope is a Lotto ticket, then you undervalue the scope of your own imagination. We live for hope. It is what drives us, what makes us worth the air we breathe. Without it societies die and nations founder.
